Nice that Benz isn't gouging 3-4K extra to go to the diesel. On the other hand they seem to be following the traditional German "Options?....you vant options?.....bendinzee over" pricing formulas.  :(

I'm taking the ML in for it's annual safety inspection tomorrow so maybe I'll take a GLK250 for a spin.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

This would be very high on my to buy list if I was in this market. Anybody know when the Q5 TDi is going to be available? Then add in the BMW 328d Touring and I would have a hard time picking.

Although impressive mileage, most small suvs are capable of achieving this mileage and that too with a gas engine (mazda cx5). So spending more for a star on the hood does nt make sense.

Bullcrap.
It's a definite winner for the MB. On my shopping list next time around.

if you're comparing the manual FWD version of the CX5 - it comes close...
it's all downhill after that...

so NO most small SUVs are NOT capable of achieving this.

CX5:
Fuel consumption FWD M/T   City: 7.8 L/100 km (36 mpg Imp) Hwy: 5.7 L/100 km (50 mpg Imp)
Fuel consumption FWD A/T   City: 7.7 L/100 km (37 mpg Imp) Hwy: 6.1 L/100 km (46 mpg Imp)
Fuel consumption AWD   City: 8.0 L/100 km (35 mpg Imp) Hwy: 6.4 L/100 km (44 mpg Imp)

Considering the weight of the GLK, this fuel economy is excellent.

Again, in real world, diesels seem better at matching TC numbers.

The Q5 TDI is already at dealers.

@mixmanmash  ^ ^ ^

Over the break-in period many diesels even better listed fuel economy ratings.

I agree, great fuel economy numbers, especially considering the weight, and we know how testers drive these vehicles.  Yes the Mazda CX-5 has great fuel economy for gas engine, but it's in a different class, the road noise is there, interior materials totally different, the little details, that make the Mercedes a true luxury vehicle.

I don't see anything in the options that I would want, the base would be fine for me.  It would be interesting to see how much one of these would cost in 3 years, through the CPO program... Out of my price range new...

Haven't bought through a CPO program, the cars I bought used, that weren't demos, I took to be inspected by my mechanic, and for my Mazda5, bought their extended warranty for around $1200 for 150,000kms I think.  But when looking at the CPO program for MB, it seems they average $4000-$6000 more than other dealers, some really excessive, but they do offer a lower 0.9% interest rate and 120k warranty. Any thoughts ?  Seems excessive....

Kudos to Germans who like Japanese "hybridize" the North American market selling very expensive vehicles with highly efficient drivetrains. But wait, is there any rationality?

For people wanting a nice smallish CUV, this is a short-lister. Nice starting price – I've seen the base model, it's pretty darn good. And, still competitive at the fully optioned end. I've driven a few GLKs and C Class and I think the GLK is a more credible luxury ride than the C...not that they'd be cross-shopped – I'm trying to make the point that MB did a better job with the GLK than it did with the C.

For mileage numbers maybe but not in any other way.

Well, the GLK diesel is only B5 biodiesel compatible(as is the ML350 and GL350 diesels). This is not a big deal in Canada but many places in the USA (mostly mid-west) you cannot buy anything but B20. Using B20 will void your warranty so buyer beware.

I agree with you.....apparently most people think that the Mazda is a third rate import from Eastern Bloc while the Benz is a magical vehicle thats better than it in every way.  ::) Then again it just maybe that I have a blind loathing for this, the Tiguan and the X1 and X3.....
Lighten up Francis.....
