Sad but true. The cost of taking a train in Canada is expensive, be it short or long distance.

GO seems pretty reasonable to me
Return trip from Guelph to Union Station is $24.20.   Last time I parked at Metro Convention Ctr for the Toronto Auto Show it cost me $20 for the day.  If I go again next year, for sure i'm taking the train.

Would agree that VIA is pricey, though.

That is why they are rich  :) $13 return from Oakville Go to Union is a bargain. You can't park Down Town for under $20...now add in fuel costs and its an easy decision.

No kidding , to take the train from Rome to the  Civitavaecchia the port  , about 100km it cost 4.80 euros each, here it $70 for the same distance  ::)

And I have waved down a bus (like a Greyhound) on a back road in Norway and the driver stopped, let me pay by credit card and carried on. Try that in Canada.  But this isn't Rome or Noway, things are different here and we build our transit system for cars, not trains.

Saying that, I have no issues with the current pricing of GO Transit. Now Via, not so much. If I was to take the train Toronto-London its about $120/person one way! Its only a 200km drive. I can do it cheaper in a full sized SUV.

Had to pick up the wife last at the Toronto Island airport, it was 114 kn, and used 3.8 l/100km avg speed was 92 km/hr.  so that would just over $5 , so $10 round trip. There no way you could travel on VIA at that price
