Enjoy, Shane!

Now you've got the brewing angle covered, be it beans or hops, from morning 'til night!   :rofl2: :rofl2:

This is an interesting coffee maker, certainly different than other automatic coffee maker.  So far though, very impressed with the quality of the coffee it's producing.  MUCH MUCH better than the Keurig that I purchased.

In the Keurig did use a paper filter and your own coffee?

The Home Outfitters store here is closing - i picked up this for $40.

Vacuum coffee maker.  Water goes in bottom pot, coffee in the top.  Water boils and flows up to the top & dances with the grinds and then settles back down into the bottom pot.

Never seen a maker like this one before, and it did appeal to the gadget side of me & thought it was pretty neat.
Ratings on it indicate it makes a good cup once you get the hang of it.

Any other coffee drinkers used one of these before?

^^ I like the design, but isn't it basically the same as a Moka pot?

I'm not entirely sure, but isn't a percolator a bit different? I think in a percolator the coffee gets recycled through the heat, while it doesn't in a Moka pot.

No.  Well I suppose since there is both a vacuum going on.  But that's about it.  Kinda like similar cars have 4 tires.   ;D

Some people say a vacuum/siphon produces the best tasting coffee PERIOD.  But it's probably one of the least convenient ways to do it.

It looks rather tippy and breaky to me.  I'd have coffee grounds and shattered glass all over my kitchen in no time.  How is the coffee?

Kind of, the water gets forced into the upper chamber same as a Moka, but with this it flows back down into bottom pot.
Result is americano coffee rather than espresso

It looks rather tippy and breaky to me.  I'd have coffee grounds and shattered glass all over my kitchen in no time.  How is the coffee?

It's actually pretty secure. The rubber stops on bottom of the filter hold it in place well.
The worst part is the handle gets pretty hot.

Decided to try it out tonight.  The booklet recommends a diffuser for gas stoves, but f-that....slows down the process.
Couple reviews said it took forever for the water to boil so I cheated & used hot tap water.  The pot boiled almost right away, so would use bottled or filtered water next time.  Recommendation was to use a level scoop (included with the maker) for each cup, and a coarse grind.

Here is video of it in action.  Couple of clips are sped up considerably.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vnor7L842dQ

It reached a boil very quickly, and then very slowly it drained back into the lower pot.  Resulting coffee was pretty good... i prefer it stronger so would use a finer grind next time and an additional scoop or two of coffee.  Total time took about 15 minutes, so only good for when you are not in a particular rush.

Worth the 40 bucks i think, even just for the novelty.  Something to amuse dinner guests sometime.

It looks like I need a new coffee maker once again.  My Bonavita hasn't been the best of machines lately and looks like I'll need a replacement.  Throw some suggestions at me folks.

That sucks! Not even a year old...  :shake:

I'm still rocking my single cup maker - almost 2 years old, still works great.

If I needed to replace it, would probably go with this - combo single cup & 12 cup maker:

Bonavita has a good replacement program. I've had mine for years and no issue. I would suggest contacting them for a replacement. If you want something else go to the SCAA website for certified and tested coffee makers.

Current SCAA Certified Home Brewers include (in no particular order):

Technivorm Moccamaster
Bunn Phase Brew 8 Cup Coffee Brewer
Bonavita 8 Cup Exceptional Brew Coffee Maker with glass or thermal carafe (BV1800)
Brazen Plus Customizable Temperature Control Brew System
KitchenAid Coffee Maker KCM0802
Bonavita Coffee Maker (model BV1900TS)

Here are some new cool looking one's : Chemex Otto, Wilfa Precision Brewer and  Ratio Coffee Maker

I've been using my french press since my Bonavita died.  I love the french press, but I've still be looking for a new machine ever since.  This machine caught my attention and I ended up ordering it today.  Reviews have been very solid, but we'll see......
