Test Drive: 2013 Jaguar XF 3.0 AWD
« on: April 01, 2013, 06:30:59 am »

The Jaguar XF with all-wheel-drive is sleek, powerful and well-behaved, perhaps too well-behaved.

Three years old XFs are with asking price of 25k. This is three times less the price of this one here. One third residual value left after just three years? This must be an April fools joke!

There's only one '10 XF on AutoTrader for under $25k and it has 120,000 km. There's only two more that are under $30k; the vast majority are in the $30-45k range.

No question that Jaguar residuals are poor but they are not as bad as you make it sound.

The XF and XJ are essential for Jaguar to grow marketshare in Canada and in the northern U.S. Hopefully they will also be able to fit the next generation V8 models with AWD too.

Gorgeous car and a fantastic lightly-used proposition. Dont be scared about the reliability stories - I am sure these cars are more solid than many supposedly 'reliable' luxury cars. All cars these days are so much more reliable than even cars of 10 years ago it is not funny. Just chose a car that tickles your fancy and enjoy it. I for one would get the Jag over almost anything close to its class...save for maybe the A6 3.0T...
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

There was a time when a Jaguar did not need a cat mounted to be recognised as such a mk. but now this could be any make.

Oliver writes: "No question that Jaguar residuals are poor but they are not as bad as you make it sound." I'm not agree that the resale values of Jags "are not as bad" - the Jaguars and Range Rovers are with one of the worse resale prices of all vehicles - from Acura to Volvo...By the way, I just check Auto Trader in GTA - there are exactly 10 (ten) 2009 XFs with asking price between 21.9 and 25k and all of them with mileage less than 138000 kms.

I'd consider this exact model next time around...especially if they do away with the giant brushed metal slab of a dash. Beautiful car otherwise. Interestingly (to me at least) the as tested price is within a hundred dollars or so of my car – it couldn't be more head-to-head with the E350.

Nice car (interior is a little too modern for me) but if Jag really wants to get some sales volume going I think they should be working on a 3 series/C class etc competitor.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

FIL has a 2010 XF 5.0 NA V8, premium.  He LOVES it.  I, on the other hand, found 2 problems with it...1) it was sedate - the drive of the car made me want to drive it softer, not harder; 2) for such a giant car on the outside, the inside is just too small.  The back seats are claustrophobic and the trunk is smaller (less usable, at least) than his previous 335xi.  In the front it feels fine, but the dash protrudes too much.

With that being said, the refinement, luxury, and performance of the car are superb...and for the price, the value is quite amazing.  Is it a better car than its competitors?  Only in gimmicky ways - but that heated windscreen alone would sway me if I had that kind of cash.  The fact that the FIL hasn't seen a fogged windshield since he got the car is very, very jealousy-inducing.

While I like the interior, I can't warm up to the exterior.  I may be in the minority, but I loved the previous gen Jaguar (the one with the classic lines) a lot more.

Same here. This "Jaguar" could just as easily be from Lexus, Infiniti, Kia, Volvo or Lincoln.

funny, I never ever think such a thing. Modern Jags look gorgeous and thoroughly modern, not ancient mothballs on wheels that appeal solely to nostalgia and nothing else...

I would never, ever confuse a modern Jag with a Lexus or a Buick...

I'd bet most people wouldn't have a clue what it was if the badges were covered. It's just another generic aeroblob in a sea of similar shapes.
The previous versions  people could pick out a mile away.

maybe they could not readily pick out exactly what it was, mainly because the design language is still very new for it to be readily known, but it is far from a generic blob of a car - you know INSTANTLY that it is something special and expensive looking.

The previous versions were good for their time, but they had been making that shape for going on 30 years...time for a change and it was a good one at that...
