A great sales success for Cadillac, the SRX is luxuriously appointed but dull to drive.

Interesting review. I surprised to hear that the larger, higher HP engine for 2012 didn't really cure the "sluggish" issue. One of the good things about my '07 SRX (inspite of the horrible reliability) was the driving feel. I sorry to hear GM has engineered this out the new version.

The SRX made it into our final 3 prior to selecting the MDX. Mrs. Mango quite liked it and I certainly thought it was nice. Definitely competitive in the segment.

As for reliability I don't know what the stats are on the new generation but any car can have issues. My "reliable Subaru" WRX blew its tranny less than a year in and my mother-in-law's RX 350 (which I recommended because if reliability) has had the transmission changed twice and the steering rack replaced under warranty  :-[

I've had two family members and one close friend that has owned an SRX and all three had nothing but issues with them.  Literally, they were a nightmare to own.  Sailor's experience seems like it was about the same as well.  I think you made the right choice going with the MDX for Mrs. Mango.   :)

I'm curious to see who the new one does.  It is much more 'parts bin' related which may improve things.  The old SRX and STS didn't share much with any other vehicles.

So how can you compare old generation to the next one.
That like comparing 1978 Civic to 2012 Civic

Perhaps Sir O can come around and provide the stats on the current Gen.

I did steer away from it partially based on reliability (or my perspective thereof). This is funny because as an interesting side note - as I grew up my parents had nothing but GM cars as one of their good friends owned a dealership. For probably 25 years they (we) didn't have a single issue with any GM vehicle....and there were usually 3 at the house at any given time.

I grew up the same way.  One used Toyota in the mid-80's but everything else was GM.  I got them in their first non-GM car a few years ago, a Kia Rondo EX-V6 and they love it.

IIRC, they were an 07 and two 08s.

Perhaps this is why I have a soft spot in my heart for the ol' General.

I've probably been beaten down from the comments on this forum  :rofl2:

Same here, but it was Ford in our house growing up.  My Father has always owned Ford, and to this day, that's all he buys.  He's had a couple of lemons over the years (1992 Explorer was one), but overall they have treated him extremely well.

My dad has owned all of four cars in his entire life. First two were Honda Civics, third was a Dodge Caravan and he's a in a 2004 Corolla now that he's just beginning to think of replacing. No idea what he'll get next, but it'll probably be fairly basic, and Japanese.

Did my review really seem this biased?  I thought I gave the SRX a lot of praise where deserved

IMHO, that wasn't at all biased like that FB poster claimed.  I thought it was a very positive review of the SRX myself.

It did seem very obvious from your review that you did not like the car. Even most of your positive comments kinda fell into the " damning with faint praise" category.

It's interesting that you cite the lack of enthusiast appeal as an issue. This site certainly does not seem aimed at the enthusiast driver. More the spreadsheet purchaser.

I only disagree with you with the driving dynamics (thought you were a little too hard on it) and the engine - I thought the new engine was EXACTLY what the SRX needed and should have had since day one.

I think my problem (unfortunately for Cadillac) was getting into the X3 right afterwards.  The SRX is okay on its own, but when compared to that rig....

Good feedback.  No, I wasn't overly thrilled with it.  It seemed like it could have been so much more with a little here and there.

As far as the enthusiast side, that is my slight slant I take in reviews (for better or worse)

Just another SUV/CUV in an overflowing sea of the things.  This one is, in my humble opinion, uglier than most, though.  The CTS Sport Wagon, on the other hand, is a hot looking CAR, low and sleek rather than tall and ungainly like the SRX.
