I still want a Ford Fiesta ST...... ;D
With you on that....great little commuter car
Not even just a commuter car, but would be a hoot on the backroads here. I would like something with more verve, a bit less size, and 3 pedals.

But mother was adament on me keeping her car, and there's nothing really wrong with the 3er which turned 10 years old in June, 193k now. I like and use all the features on the 3er, including all the tweaks (it is fully ECE compliant), and it's a superb inter-city express train- 160-200km/h with low consumption and comfort. And not having a car payment means I can save up for next big thing. So I can be satisfied, and just ride my bike for fun and manual shifting.

2012-2013 Audi TTRS

Here's my moronic thinking process:
  • Trade-in value for the Wrangler seems fine still, might as well use that while I can
  • I've liked the TT's since they came out (kind of but not the same to liking Wrangler's since I was a kid)
  • We have the FozXT as a family vehicle, comfortably seats the 3 of us. Why not complement that with something fun ???
  • I've got automotive attention deficit disorder, I like a vehicle for about 18 months before my attention starts to drift to others
  • I don't off-road, so the Wrangler is definitely not being used for its intended purpose (however I likely wouldn't track the TTRS)
  • I like to park in the garage during the winter. So does my wife. We only have a two-car garage. If I were to keep the Wrangler and buy a summer-toy-car I'd have to pay to store the summer toy somewhere for 4-6 months
  • However, the TTRS doesn't really have a lot of ground clearance. If we get a couple of 1' snowfalls will it be ok with decent winter tires? Or will I be the neighborhood snow plow (I'm usually 1st or 2nd car out of the neighborhood in the AM judging from the tire tracks in the snow. Also, the TTRS was a very limited run, from the mechanical empathy viewpoint it would be abuse to drive it in the winter... Then again, while reading the older TTRS/Cayman comparo's someone did mention why buy a car and not use it in the winter...

I'm on a bit of a 2012+ BMW 528 kick. My parents had a 520i many years ago and I loved that thing. I love the look of the interior, all the creature comforts but style too. The 2.0T sounds intriguing. 240hp with an 8 speed auto. I need to test drive one but my local dealer just moved much further away.

Thats a small engine for a large, heavy FGC.

I guess it will be a year before they finish the Reno on the dealership

Faster than the previous gen, still gets to 100km/h under 6 seconds.  Nice to have engine options..

Do not know why...saw one on Friday, been thinking about them all weekend and trying to rationalize why it would be worth the premium over a regular, run of the mill Avalanche but the thought of a 6.2, 400hp V8 almost makes it a no brainer.

Lighten up Francis.....

^YES!
Is there really a big premium over a comparable Avalanche on the used market? When we bought our 'Slade there was only a small ($1500-2000) gap between the Caddy and a comparable Tahoe/Yukon.

Doesn't the Cadillac Escalade have the 6.2L standard?  While the Avalanche/Tahoe/Yukon had the 6.0L/6.2 optional.  So I suppose the price gap on the Escalade and Yukon, would be those equipped with the bigger V8s, not the 5.3L.

Yeah, Escalade (in Canada) always got the biggest motor. I am not sure that's why though, would have to look at comparable Yuk's with different motors and see. Even then, once a car is 5+ years old it's pretty hard to accurately compare on the used market; I'd value maintenance, colors, tires, etc along with the engine, which introduces a lot of variables.

Man, that thinking process sounds pretty sound to me - you should go for it!  :)

Totally anecdotal but just the other week I was reading a thread over in the Pistonheads forums about someone's TT-RS ownership experience - in a word, they were ecstatic, saying the car felt far more fast and 'special' compared to anything else in its price range.

The low ground-clearance issue does sound legit - have you checked the Audiworld forums for first-hand experiences?

If you are looking for something really fun, go for something lighter and RWD.  The TT-RS is a very capable car, with tons of grip, but will understeer when pushed.  It would only really be truly fun on a track.

Something lighter and RWD will be much more fun to drive on a daily basis, and should be no bother in the winter with proper tires.  I drove both the Genesis Coupe and the 535i all year, both RWD, both on decent snows, never got stuck once.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...
