if i could get the upgraded mechanicals + the upgraded interior, in the bodystyle of the previous gen SL then i would be happy. Everything about this design (except for the rear because frankly it has not changed much) has been seemingly executed to be a plus-sized SLK. I understand MB wants to have a strong, instantly-recognizable corporate styling theme like their #1 rival, but a nameplate as iconic as the SL could have gotten away with crazy styling...this is somewhat boring dare i say.
the inside however i am a huge fan of. the previous gen's interior was also nicely styled (never sat in one so can't talk about how all those materials were screwed together), but was really starting to become dated. With the new one MB has taken the overall shape of the previous interior and somehow modernized it while simultaneously evoking cues from their cars from decades past.
If this vehicle does, in fact, attract an older demographic, will they remember that AIRSCARF exists in their car? Will they care that the top can go from transparent to opaque at the push of a button? Will any non-AMG version ever see a track once under ownership? Hell will any of the non-DTM models ever see a track. should have invested a majority of the tech budget into designing a really really good massage seat.
