My friend , working at a Shell camp
So where do I begin... Day 3 was so different from the first 2 days, day one was one where calm and caring were the rule of the day. Day 2 was a day where creative thinking, problem solving and adrenaline were the source of the energy to make it through the day. However today was the toughest of them all... Today was overshadowed by the overwhelming sadness born of the mass acknowledgement that there has been so much lost in the past 72 hours. People were breaking down, hysterical tears pouring down distraught faces. And then the frustration hit! Shell workers somehow managing to keep from falling on their faces were trying to manage the insane task of moving another 3000 plus people. Trying to be understanding and supportive for all those evacuees who were tired and impatient and just wanted to be on a plane that would take them away from all of this was a very challenging and took a lot of energy which was in short supply.
Shell Emergency Response Team especially the logistics team pulled off an insane feet, moving not only all the evacuees who walked through our doors, but all the bus loads of people that came from other camps that had chosen to evacuate all their residents. I don't think i'd be far off if I said the ended up flying about 6000 people to southern AB in the past two days!!
The coming together of companies like Inland Networks, Excel, G4S, Diversified and especially ESS Compass, was an incredible effort to be the calm in the wildfire storm that had hit these peoples lives!!
Thank you to all who have given all this energy and support to help these stranded people!
Off to bed because I have to be back to work in less than 5 hours. Good night all I hope you are safe and warm!
