Seems like a solid used car buy overall. Spacious and decently powerful. Surprised that this car would be subject to much modding, but then I  am just as surprised to see many people modding their Genesis sedans.   ???  Timing chain issues on the V8? Yikes. Good to know.

Not much to dislike about this car, especially with the later updates.  Great looks!

My impression was most reviews preferred the driving dynamics of the Lexus GS and the Genesis.

Still, the used prices I see for the V8 Infinitis are pretty compelling.

Co-worker bought a used one from his brother. Told me he couldn't take it north (Timmins) in the winter because it would just shut down and had be be thawed out in a warm garage before it would start. Boosting did nothing to start it.
Maybe an example of one, but concerning in any case.

That's what I meant - I'm surprised they sold so few.  I know handling wasn't a strong point but that never hurt the LS.  Not saying it's equal to the LS but it does seem like a compelling enough offering to have more takers than it has actually managed to attract.

In my mind the biggest problem with the M is that the Germans were more luxurious with better handling and the reliability couldn't match Lexus.  So it's sorta stuck in a no-man's land.

Same could be said of the G37 / Q50 - doesn't quite match German handling or Lexus reliability -  but they sold a pile of those.

I test drove this thing a couple of times in V6 guise and every time it just came across kind of "meh" for some reason. Really hard to put a finger on why.

Perhaps part of it is just that I don't feel like there is any subjective attraction to the car. Its all left-brain stuff and that just left me cold.

What left me cold about it is that it didn't seem unique enough from the G37 / Q50, aside from the V8.  It just kind of seems like same sausage, different length.  And I'm saying that as a Nissan/Infiniti fan.

Weird type of car. With Q Nissan cannibalized sales of M the same way they did with Altima and Maxima. On top of this M is no real competitor to Germans or Lexus GS. What actually is the purpose of this car?

I don't know how many times I thought I was looking at a "G" coming down the road, that turned out to be an "M". Same problem with the styling. Both have lots of interesting styling cues in isolation, but never quite feel unified or  beautiful enough to create a sense of passion. Lesser cars (on paper) such as the Mazda 6 achieve this in spades. As for the left brain stuff, it's almost like the designers tried too hard to create passion through quantity of style...

I see I am not the only one who feels this way about the M.

If German iron has a je ne sais quois (it is ironic to use a French term to describe German metal) then the M has the same thing in reverse.

Something not quite "right" with the styling

"Je ne sais pas pourquoi ?!"

I don't think it is wrong to use French...The Infinities have very strong French connection (as other Nissans recently) and this is clear why - they are OWNED by French. Even the Formula 1 teams advertise Infiniti although there isn't any Infiniti at all.
