The all-new 2012 Audi A7 is 'stunningly beautiful' yet is more than just a pretty face, says Peter Bleakney ' it 'scoots, corners and grips like few other cars.'

I've modified my message upon reading mmret comment below.  I think Buyers of this fine car want privacy.
They want to take pride of ownership and they want to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Beautiful car that is in my top 3 of best lookers with good equipment offering too.  Although the VW CC (also on the aforementioned list) is also similar in profile the 2 vehicles are in vastly differeny price leagues.

Just wow. Impossibly beautiful in photographs, and doesn't disappoint in person. I first saw this car at the 2011 NAIAS in Detroit and even with all the other impressive cars at the show, I stuck around and gocked at this Audi for about 10 minutes. I just couldn't take my eyes off the shape. IMO, this is the every-mans' Aston Martin Rapide.

Congrats to the very lucky would-be owners of this beauty.

I believe I saw one in black eastbound on the 401 in Milton last Thursday. It had dealer plates and I could not get close to it for a good look but it certainly looked good.   But $88k + tax is too much.

Just went to the Audi website.  I might have been an A5 coupe that I saw.

WOW, that is a real looker!

Gord, that's a great color combination, I hope you'll post pics when you get it.  Hopefully the wait isn't too long!

I don't think Audi knows how to make an ugly car.  May they never find out.

I hope BMW (5 series GT) and Acura (ZDX) are taking note here - Audi shows that a practical 5 door hatch CAN be stunningly good looking (not revolting) and drive equally well.  Leave these cars as they are meant to be - hatchbacks - and not some sort of SUV-raised monstrosity.  And for us plebians, pass that message on to Honda (Crosstour).  It's too bad Mazda cancelled the 6 sport after the last generation, that was another sharp hatchback.  Hopefully Audi sells a fair number of A7s, I doubt that will be a problem for them.  Any word if an S7, or, heaven forbid, an RS7 is on the way?  One final comment - is it just me, or are 20" wheels with a 265 width getting ridiculous?  I'd hate to see the replacement costs...

While I don't find it stunningly beautiful, it is an attractive car. Like every Audi out there.

Can anyone tell me is there any real benefit of buying the A7 instead of the A6 Avant?

A6 Avant can seat 5 people, not four.
A6 Avant has much more cargo space than A7.

I doubt that there is a practical benefit.  Just as I doubt that all $80k-plus automotive purchases are motivated by practical requirements.

The benefit of the A7 is that it is beautiful. The A6 Avant, while more functional, is not. Thankfully, buying a vehicle is much more than a mathematical equation.

Besides, wagons aren't popular anymore - all the people who wanted the Avant just buy the Q-series SUV's now. BMW is experiencing the same thing - the touring is all but gone save for the lone 3-series trim, but the X-line is doing gangbusters.

+1. A used Mazda 6 sport can be had for 1/10 the cost of this admittedly gorgeous Audi and fits my budget perfectly

I thought I read somewhere that there will be no more A6 Avants for NA just like BMW dropping the 5_wagon.

I seem to recall something similar - after the previous comment I went on to Audi's site and indeed found A4 and A6 variants of the Avant, but maybe they won't make it to the 2012 model year. At least the A3 won't be leaving anytime soon, that's a great little hatch.

Completely agree!  IMHO, Audi makes the nicest looking cars of any mass production car manufacturer.  The A7 Sportback is just gorgeous!

agreed...even though it is foggy and rainy outside (in the pictures), this car still looks stunning.
