I'm sure Hammy has considered this. There's no need to fear monger or parent shame.
I wouldn't say anyone here has fear mongered, nor 'parent shamed'.

...but I will point out that anything I wrote was in light of Hammy having specifically asked:
if I let him get a bike I'm just a bit worried he might hurt himself.  Anyone out there have advice?
So my advice would have been "don't let him get a bike", which is a fair comment (if not one that is shared by everyone in this thread).

Only after I typed my answer did I read everyone else's comments and then the one where he said "he bought a bike".  At that point I tried to modify my response.  Once I was notified that I made a dick move, I just snipped it out entirely.

I didn't call you a dick, I called it a dick move. Do the two things mean the same in the court of law? :) I have a pretty high regard for you. I even agreed to disagree about Mazda's bolstered seats, which I like but understand not everyone will.

Hey guys, so far the new bike is going great, my son is very responsible and careful.  If I thought he was otherwise I wouldn't have let him get the bike.  Also, insurance was only $400 a year which was a bonus.  He's ridden about 200 km just around the neighborhood the past two days.... which is a lot considering a round trip is about 4 kms!  I am attaching one picture, unfortunately it has grass run off from my mower in it, have to get a better one tomorrow.

Nice bike. May I suggest a bright helmet to offset the black bike  ;D

We made are teen use one of those bright safety vests. That did not last long as ego got the better part of safety, but then again he was riding at prime time within the GTA unlike your less congested son's ride.

Enjoy the ride.

Looks great!  CBR125 is a great bike to learn on, I'm sure he'll have fun with it!

So since this post hammy Jr. Has bought an r3 and is now eyeballing a used r6.  He sold the 125 and got most of his money back.  He's already got 11,000 Kms on the r3! He absolutely loves motorcycles.

Late to the thread, glad he's doing well.

It may be to late to apply to Hammy, sounds like things are well sorted.... But my advise to young and new riders is if you don't feel 100% up for it, don't ride. I wouldn't stop my kid from riding but I'd make sure it's not her only way to get around.

There have definitely been days I left my scooter at home or even at work in favour of driving or riding the bus...
