I thought I read somewhere that this taxi or the NYC competition was inspired by the Johnny-Cab design in Total Recall?

hmmmm   I think a replica Checker Marathon body on the Altima or Maxima chassis would have been far more fun.

Having just spent a week in the 5 seat Ford Transit Connect, I see a lot of similarities between the two.

I wonder if Ford tried to win the contract since they also have a transit connect 'taxi' edition.

Sounds like a practical, purpose-built vehicle.  But an article on a new taxi with no pics of the interior?  ???

Well, that looks nicer inside than about 99% of the cabs I have ever entered in Toronto.

I think this is a really great development for NYC! If they really do have crown vics running people around 800 million km annually... well damn substituting a japanese van in is a no-brainer! Imagine all the gas they'll save! Plus, this Nissan NV200 looks really appealing on the inside.

I wonder if we'll ever have larger taxis that pick up more than one party; like a bus but more personal. It could drive a limited distance off its route for your convenience and because there would be so many circulating you wouldn't need to wait very long to catch one at the corner. When I took the bus to work, it only came once every hour, and if I missed it I'd have to find an alternative route or call a family member or cab.

Yeah but they lost.  I guess Nissan took the formula and perfected it :)
