The house would have had to pass code which I'm sure it does. You're dealing with poor craftsmanship. Classic Toronto builder cutting corners.
Doesn't code require a GFCI plug wherever water is a risk?

Assuming that is the cord from the washer; what you have there is correct.

Dishwasher. The piping is for the kitchen sink.

So right now we are debating giving the kitchen a coating of red-orange paint to distract people from the slightly crooked cabinets

Terracotta does look great in a kitchen.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Perhaps the floor is not flat and the cabinets are in fact plumb to the floor? ;D

Dishwasher. The piping is for the kitchen sink.

Regardless, those water use appliances are not ground fault protected. So remove that from your list.  :)   Don't understand the dishwasher plug.  Normally they are 20 amp hard wired.  Why is the that cord lying on a water supply?  :-X

I believe the current code states that a GFI is needed if the electrical outlet is closer than 1M to a water tap.

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

1m to "open" sources of water like sinks, tubs, showers, etc.  Not dishwashers.

That plug is right below the kitchen sink though.

Our Miele built in dishwasher had a plug on it

That plug is right below the kitchen sink though.

Does not serve the countertop.  It just changed in the States so no doubt they will soon make GFI mandatory for dishwashers here, plug in or hardwired.   Next will be ceiling fans.  :P

Our dishwasher is hardwired, but our house was built in 1971- I think new houses have standard plugs.  Our Bosch dishwasher came with a standard cord but we hardwired it instead of installing a plug in the cabinet.

Things have started to get fixed. Step by step. Even a one of the more frivolous things got addressed today.... I am becoming a big more optimistic.
