Just got a quote from my broker to insure our son who just turned 16. $900/year for the Venza but we must sign a waiver that he will not drive the S2000 or TT-RS.

Our son just passed his written test and is beginning to drive within the rules which require my wife or I in the car beside him.
Added him to our existing policy at no cost.
They didn't ask for a rider to restrict his driving the Tesla, although that's never going to happen (he knows it) because I was his age once...

My daughter has her learners license and there is no charge to our insurance and she cannot drive alone.  It's once she has her "true" license that we must (mandatory) add her to our policies.

Many of her friends are not allowed to obtain their licenses while still living at home as the parents simply can't afford the extra insurance cost.

As much as I'm loathe to give those insurance f-ckers another dime of my money, we're going to do it so that she can leave home with a license.

John, why must you get insurance coverage for her, is it a government thing ?
When our son was in university they want $800 to have him covered , he was going to Carlton , 300 km ,  we could have signed a letter  stating he would not drive our cars, but when he were to get his own car , he would be consider a new driver, which would cost him more

Those f*ckers are merciless.

Come to Manitoba.  It will cost nothing to 'add' a new driver.  When my stepson turns 16, the cost to me will be $0 above what we already pay (about $150/month for the Altima).  So Yes, the cost of insuring our one vehicle may be more than other provinces, but the tables quickly turn when you have multiple drivers, including new drivers in the household.

What's wrong with Manitoba? Flin Flon is my next calling if Kelowna doesn't work out.

Just like CSH said, it's an average. It may go down 20% somewhere where premiums are already extremely low and go up for busy cities...

Horror!    The 2016 policy docs arrived and the insurance went UP by         60 cents a month.

The actual insurance went down by $20/year for each car but the 5 year depreciation waiver went up quite a bit.  The CSR  didn't know how this was computed but she didn't think it was a function of the $$.

Will we ever see the promised insurance rate drop in the next few years?
These insurance companies are delaying to milk us dry.

The only way the rates will decrease, is when you get less coverage

We're looking at $1500/yr to add my daughter.  Most kids are paying $2100-2500, so she's pretty happy about that rate. When you consider that we pay <$3000 now to insure ALL FOUR cars, that $1500 is a huge percentage jump.  Most people in Alberta pay more as we get very aggressive pricing through the Teacher's Group.

my renewal came today, after buying two new cars my insurance has gone down from $125 month to $111 for the same coverage ...  I am part of a group plan from when I retired, so luckily my rates have always been good for premium coverage...

We have $3M liability and $250dd on everything except liability only on the Forester.  Plus some add-ons like loss-of-use, etc.  The Highlander and Corolla are about $800 each, the Miata about $400 and the Forester $500.

Gosh that's awesome! I wish MB's insurance would go private, I have 3 cars, 1 trailer and 1 ATV - total insurance bill? $5,160.00 - I have a clean record and the max discount already!!!

perhaps our new Conservative government will come to its grips and let the private sector take over.
