I came across a memorial notice in today's paper for a co-worker who died of ALS a few years ago at only 58. It reminded me - again - of the many dear friends and co-workers I've lost in the last 10 or 15 years, two of them within months of each other just last year. What really hurts is that so many of them didn't even make it to retirement, one was only 33 when she was killed, no MURDERED, by a drunk driver last Fall.  :'(

The sadness can sometimes be a bit overwhelming but I'll get over it like I always do. Such is life.

My condolences, johngenx. How very awful.

I have an always growing list of friends that have died in the mountains (avalanches, climbing etc) but surprisingly few taken by illness or other causes.

My condolences, johngenx. How very awful.

Thanks - I can't imagine the pain his family are feeling.

Making us sad today is that a young man, friend of my daughter and fellow ski instructor died suddenly.  She doesn't know yet, I have to tell her later today.

 :'(

Sad for sure  :(

Dude, sounds you actually stopped at the free heroine sample booth.

Seriously though, that's weird, glad you're ok.

I'm glad I'm not the only annoying pedant here. :)

I was going to comment on some other good ones from today (paring/pairing, loath/loathe, elude/allude), but thought better of it. ;)

Upset and angry that I spent $100 on lunch yesterday and it was crap!  Service was slow and the food was overcooked and barley warm.  >:( My wife and I decided to take my mother out as she has cabin fever from beeing cooped up all winter in her apt so we figured a day out in the city would help.   :P.

SJAH.  Last time we went it was great.   :-\. Shane's Vanilla Porter was perfect though so not a total loss.

Daylight Savings.

Those of you with young kids will know how frustrating it is.

Yup, and my wife's always get screwed at work, working an extra hour.  This time, she lost an hour sleep, on a 12 hour shift!  In this day and age, the benefits are much less than a long time ago...

Daylight savings > standard time, IMO. If we're not going to change the clock we should use daylights savings year round.

F*cking daylight savings time.

my bio clock is all thrown outta whack again.

I woke up with sun the last week, and now, i'm in the dark again.  we get 18 hour sun during summer, why the heck do we need DST here in AB!!!!!!  F*ck.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

I'd go for that.

Bio clock wise, after 12hrs or so upside down coming back from Asia, this is a pretty minor shift.

Another negative is that I start work at 7.  I ride my bike to work (even in winter) and leave the house at 6:40.  All winter I'd ride to work in the dark, and only in the last month was it starting to get light out.  Last week it was almost full daylight and I was able to NOT turn on my cycling lights.  It was nice, actually being able to see where I'm going and also knowing I'm fully visible to other vehicles.

Now I'm back in full darkness again.  And for likely another month.  Fack!
