« on: July 18, 2012, 04:06:44 am »

The Ford Mustang V6 is a great car for the money, but the base model can't be had with many options.

We should give Ford some credit for offering the V6 version with a manual which is something Chrysler does not do with the Challenger or Charger.

Agreed.

And the pricing: what a bargain!

Excellent value and although it's more power than I will ever need, I would still want the GT with the 5.0 - I guess that's how I envision a 'real' mustang to be.  But, the smart money goes to this one.

I wonder how this would compare on the road to a new Genesis 2.0T as the cost is almost identical in base-model trims. The Mustang has 280 lb-ft torque and the Genesis isn't far behind with 275 lb-ft, and the Genny is 200 lbs lighter.

Having recently driven one of these, Ive gotta say wow. I cant believe the kind of muscle and speed the V6 has, its more than most people would need, plus great gas mileage, lower asking price....all that great stuff. Me though, I have also tried the new 5L......the V6 is great, the 5L is amazing, Id save up my empties till I could get the V8.
Lighten up Francis.....

Agreed on both counts.  I'm not really a Pony-car guy, but this is DEFINITELY the one I would choose.  Ford deserves a lot of credit for the Mustang -it may not be perfect, but it is an undeniable value.  But is it still being outsold by the Camaro in the US?

Imagine the day when we'd be applauding a V6 Mustang...never mind, it's here.

Maybe an Eco-boost 4...?

Don't care if it's good, seems wrong.

Im with ya....I dont think I could buy a V6 Mustang if I was buying new. There is just something about a V8 with a nice exhaust on it that I couldnt pass up.

Here is a  review of a reg mustang vs a gt (0-60 test).    The reviewer really sums up the reason to go with a gt quite simply at 1:45 in the Video. I have been laughing for days after I seen it but it is so true.  Me I would probably cheap out and buy the v6. I would save on gas and speeding tickets.

the second guy couldn't even launch the GT for a 0-60 test...lol

BTW the V8 GT has better fuel economy than my stock Subaru STI!!!... so either the V8 has very good mileage or my STI has poor mileage

I recently test drove a Mustang V6 premium with Performance Package and a 2013 Genesis 2.0T Premium (non R-Spec) - both were very close in price.

They were both excellent:
- Mustang was quite a bit faster, with much more low end torque - the Genesis was a bit slow until 4K RPM, when the Turbo boost would put a nice push in the back
- Both had very nice exhaust sounds, Mustang having a nice muscle car sound and the Genesis with nice turbo sounds
- Mustang's shifter was nicer, with much shorter throws
- Both interiors were very nice
- I liked the Genesis handling better - I could feel the lower cent of gravity.
- Both cars have very good rides

It would be very hard to for me to pick between the two - an R-Spec 2.0T would be interesting to compare.
Don't fight it.  The sooner you get it the better.

That's because the transmission is a Chinese POS which obviously Ford is going to keep as is until they drop the V8 in the GT which could be soon.

I've seen this on other tests; horrible fast shifting from 2nd to 3rd.  It's probably the only real major complaint on Mustang forums save for the lack of telescopic wheel that will only bother drivers that have the seat all the way back.  That said, very nice unit in all forms.

It's worth noting that the Canadian models uses different front lighting than the US models.  Other than the base V6, it appears from Ford's less than detailed website that all Canadian models get the lower spoiler fog lights where the US models don't other than the California Special.  The V8 models in the States get the two large driving lamps instead.  Personally, much prefer the spoiler fog lamps.

V6 Canadian models better value that US models.  US GT models seem to be a better value.

Actually, if they kept the same body style and stuck the F150 Ecoboost.....that would be fascinating, open up the Mustang world to a whole new world of exciting turbo goodness unseen since the SVO....BOOOST!!!  ;D ;D ;D

All due to Canadian regulations which prevent auxiliary lighting above a certain height.
