This would definitely be a summer car. Can't see one of these on the snow.

Nice fun toy car if space and budget permit.

Fantastic bang for the buck.  I'd find one with a factory dry sump and it would be a great track day car.  Performance mods are so cheap for these compared to many other vehicles.

Definetly would have a Z06 if the Lottomax ever comes through. Even a base Vette for $20-25k is an amazing bang for the buck, cant even imagine having that decision, "so I can have a well equipped new Honda Civic.....or a 400+ horse sports car......how to convince the wife that the vette is a reasonable everyday car...."  ;D
Lighten up Francis.....

A used Corvette must be a great candidate for a US purchase to both find a good copy and to save $$.

US would be the only way.

Arguably no better platform for building a race warrior or mean street machine.

I will be keeping my eyes peeled for used C6 Grandsports which get the dry sump, bodykit, and performance bits of the Z06 but maintains the more reliable and essentially bulletproof (and very moddable) LS3.

Price still needs to come down on the Grandsports.

I have heard you have to add a few more coolers if you want to track a 'vette that didn't come with them.  Things get hot after a few laps.

That's not a grand sport, though.....that's 100 grand American, not 40 grand used.  :P

Sigh....I know....but that car gives me funny feeling in my tummy....

I know there's lots of praise for LS7 and LS9 engines, but I too would seek out an LS3 equipped car.  That's the "sleeper" engine.  It makes great power, but GM left lots on the table.  Mods aren't cheap like for Ford 5.0s, but not German eye-watering either.

LS3 crate engines are a popular transplant into some pretty potent track machines (Miata, RX-7, etc) and have proven durable, even when making well over 500hp.

I'd go straight to Katech (the guys who built the C6R engine) in Michigan and buy their LS3 head/cam package. Warranty included.

Many of the LS3 Miata conversions are now doing just that.  Dyno results show that those cars are putting 530hp out AT THE WHEELS.

"And although many German and Japanese performance-car fanboys will gripe about the overabundance of Corvettes in some locales..."

Where is there an overabundance?

Around the Vancouver area it's rare to see a Corvette of any year.  No one looks twice at the countless 911s but when you do see a Corvette it stands out.  Personally I'd rather have a Miata but I can see the appeal of the Corvette.

Vmango is on the right track.  Better off with the GS than the Z06.  Most Vette owners agree.

Amazing car, especially the black one posted by Vmango.  For sure the Corvette (especially in the used car market) is the best bang for the buck...however I still can't get over how horrible the interior design is.  Everything else if great...oh and the bright chrome wheels on some models just have to go...a little too shiny for my taste.
