Today was not my day
« on: August 24, 2016, 06:13:55 pm »
Hi everyone,

Thought I would come to you for some thoughts. Changing my oil today and when the car came down off the ramp the driver door was open. The door hit the pavement and created a warp and dent in the door. Because of this my door at the front edge is bent out and I can only open my door about a foot if I want to squeeze in.

I know the obvious fix is go get a quote and fork over the big bucks but that isn't feasible at the moment so I am wondering if there is something I can use to help me bend it back into position so I can properly open my door. I have attached a pic.

The make is a Mazda Sport 3 2012 5 door, 2.0 litre.

Thank you

If you are lucky, you did not bend the a-pillar where the hinges attach. Only cheap and easy solution, find another door. Thats the easiest and cheapest solution. SO the car fell off a drive on ramp??
Lighten up Francis.....

Drive to the nearest pick-a-part, grab a door.

If only it was that easy.

You guys ever take a door off a modern car?  LOL  Not easy...PITA, actuall with all the wiring.  Have to take off the inside panel and unplug everything first.  Also need a helper.

Ugh, that's ugly. Bad day for sure :(

You'll need to look at it and see where it's binding up, maybe get someone to swing the door while you study the area and look for where it's hitting. Then use a prybar or something to coax it into clearing....more ugly, but your door will open.

As far as the easiest repair, a used door realistically is the best option. Not sure where you are, but if GTA there are a couple good U-pull yards in the Hamilton area, and then Standard Auto in Scarboro(ish). I recommend a U-pull yard as then you can pull the door off the donor car yourself and learn all the issues, so when you do the swap on your own car you'll at least be more comfortable with the process. Definitely want to have a helper, and a lot of patience, but it's probably the only way without spending big $.

Finding a correct year LH front door off a 5 door Mazda in the exact colour is not going to happen at a "pull apart".  Lucky to find just one in the entire country.

Scrap yards. the 3 is fairly a common car. although you'll probably need to paint it.

Man, that sucks.

I am a little confused about how the door was able to hit the pavement.

Could be that the 4 door and the 4 door hatch (aka 5 door) have different front doors.   Me thinks the fender were it meets the door is screwed up so it will require paint anyways so a body/bondo job is probably in the future as the cheapest fix.

I've backed out of a garage with the drivers door open once upon a time.   :rofl2:   However, not hilarious at the time.

My buddies wife is on her 4th or 5th mirror and I think doors/fender/quarter panel repair on her Tahoe from constantly clipping her garage going in and out....oh....and she destroyed an air compressor that he had borrowed by driving almost all the way over it.

That really really sucks.  Not only does it look bad, but it prevents proper use of the door.  Doh.

I'm guessing it contacted a curb when you backed off the ramp? (I'm not sure how the door would contact the pavement otherwise).
