Trans Am (LOL):

Super Clean/Purple Power will clean right through that crap.  Buy a spray bottle, spray the shlit out of it, including the rad cradle area up front, rinse it off, repeat where necessary.  I've never worried about electrical stuff, and never had an issue.  Though that car is uhm, older.  Then again my POS didn't die so why would that? Right?  Wipe it off after final rinse, and take it for a ride to get it hot.  You'll be amazed. Show us pictures whatever you decide to try, a nice tutorial in pictures.  Like that Flinters Renovations, only different.

That sounds like my plan of attack. I likely won't do the Trans Am until the spring, it's only going to get nastier through the winter anyway. I will aim to do the MGB before the weather gets too cold though, and I'll make sure I get pics.

Started noticing a lot of grease and grime build up in mine.  I know the battery should be kept clean to ensure it  lasts but beyond that is keeping the engine bay clean strictly for looks and value?

If you keep it clean, then little leaks and other problems are easier to spot.

And I hate working on stuff that isn't clean. Huge PITA to make sure dirt doesn't get where it's not supposed to be.

I don't obsess over engine bay detailing, but like to keep it neat and tidy in there.

So, what's the trick? and what do I need.

  • Facto AT30, the best water-based degreaser bar none. Available from Swish Maintenance.
  • a 1 inch pure bristle paint brush and some tooth brushes.
  • time and passion, especially the latter.

This car is 20 years old...

The motorcycle is 25 years old and has been places...

LMAO!

Very impressive, but thats how all of us should be doing it :)

My trick is the Tornador tool.  Combine that with optimum power clean and there isn't much grime and areas I cant get to.

After I use the Chemical Guys black on black to make the plastics pop.
