I thought cars all that dash warning lights indicating when a lamp is out......

In fact, ideally cars should have brakelamps cross-wired so that there's a back up in case the main one fails.

In many cars, the indicator light (blinker) on the dash will blink rapidly if one (or both) light(s) is(are) out.

Brake or headlights tend to not have any indicators of failure.  I can't fathom why not.

Quite a few vehicles have failure indicators for lights, in my experience it's usually been on my FGCs, although I do remember a friend had a 1979 Mustang with indicators.

Really? My 2004 BMW X3 had that......heck the VW Tiguan even threw a warning light for the rear number plate night being out- "Check rear license plate light!" showed up in the board computer as well. It's really not that difficult for something like a Light Control module to figure out......if it's not consuming a certain amount of voltage, throw an error. Simple.

Current, not voltage.  They put current monitors on the circuit.

You should get it fixed as soon as possible. That will turn off the warning chime.  :)

The system drove me crazy on the SLK. God forbid the terribly designed point-contact of the bulb holder to the printed circuit board on the tailight housing gets a little dirty, corroded or loose. Then you're stuck driving around with the warning light even though everything is fine. After rigging it a few times I bit the bullet andp replaced the entire housing.
