Best car wash product?
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:01:45 pm »
Any opinions on the best car wash product these days?  Anything new in the market?  I am running low on my current brand and always looking for something new to try.

Thanks

I've been using Meguiar's Gold Class wash. Seems to produce nice suds and smell is decent. Often on sale at Canadian Tire. I picked up a couple of bottles at Wal Mart for $8 each when I was in the States, otherwise it is $20 up here.

I have found over the years that washing technique trumps what products you use. I use foam gun and two buckets with grit guards. This helps to eliminate swirling in paint from bits of dirt and grime getting mixed up in your soap bucket. The second bucket is just filled with clean water to rinse the wash mitt after washing a section.

+1 to what marcus_go said. Washing technique is paramount. In addition to a regular wash with otc products like Meg's Gold Class wash, I highly recommend Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine. When bought in the larger size it is a very cost effective method of cleaning your vehicle.

Yes, the Autoglym wash really doesn't produce great suds, especially for the price. As long as it isn't one of the cheap soaps like Simoniz or Armor All, you can't go wrong with any decent quality wash. You can wash your car wrong with the most expensive soap and get bad results. Technique is everything.

There's no such thing as "the best" ..... I can tell you the most popular products among professionals ..... CarPro, Optimum, Shine Supply. These are not OTC products.

I would like to recommend 3D Professional Detailing Products. They have some great products, but what I really like are their prices. If you google them and check their site, look at the 1 gallon or 5 gallon buckets, you can save a lot of money and get much more product for the money.

This is what a lot of dealerships use in bulk to clean their vehicles. They have a lot of products to choose from. They work pretty good.
Only issue is picking it up if you live in Toronto. They have one distributor and its in Burlington. If you don't mind the drive its worth it.

Their car wash soaps are great, they provide a lot of suds. The glass cleaner is good. They have many degreasers but I just use the orange all purpose and it cleans my aluminium rims beautifully. Removes all the brake dust and bug splatters on the front hood. It's also great to clean your engine bay. Their tire dressing is nice too. I don't like much of a shine and you can dilute the product to your liking. My favourite product is Final dress which is like  a quick spray cleaner to clean off dust and works great as a clay bar lube.

I could get into a lot of detail but they have so many products...

3D/HD products are great! Contact my buddy Bryan Walroth. He can go to your location (as far as I know anywhere in Canada) and educate you on how to use their products.

They also offer free detailing seminars which is great for hobbyists and pros.

I like 3D Orange degreaser (got a 5 gallon pail) and HD Total APC. Glass cleaner is great too. As for other products .... I still utilize CarPro.

Yeah Bryan detailed my truck a few years ago. He also introduced me to 3D Products. Great products at great prices. Especially when you start buying in bulk. It becomes fractions of what you pay elsewhere.

I ended up purchasing most of their entire line. Pink Car Soap, Wash & Wax. APC - Orange Degreaser, Universal Interior & Exterior Protectant, Ultra Protectant, Trim Care Protectant, Glass Cleaner (Undiluted), Final Touch and also their entire HD line up including the compounds and waxes.

Personally for a daily driven car I stick with the regular 3D products and won't be buying the HD, unless its the cut, polish, poxy and adapt.

Is there a canadian 3d site?  Shipping is a bit cost prohibitive on the U.S. site.  Thanks.
