Used Vehicle Review: Scion xB, 2004-2013
« on: April 25, 2013, 06:28:24 am »

Unique-looking yet practical, the used xB should be subjected to standard used car checks.

The most successful vehicle of the trio Cube, xB and Soul is definetly the last one. Cube is abbandoned long ago and xB has a negligible success here in Canada...

As unpopular the Cube is, I see 10 Cube to 1 xB on the road, Soul probably 25 to 1.  The radio in that xB looks Canadian Tire aftermarket stuff.

About the radio - I've just saw the same audio unit in the last gen 2012 Toyota Yaris! Obsolete part's bin for newly assembled cars of the pretender to be No1 Manufacturer.

The original xB was pretty sharp and sold pretty well for an oddball. They blew it with the redesign.

Scion brand is weird. Why buy one over a proper Toyota? They had to make/build it on par with Toyota just more geared toward young buyers. Which is obviously not the case. Interior screams cheap and the styling is utility over the form.

Either way in typical Toyota fashion the bulk of the Scion brand is long in the tooth (minus FR-S).
The purpose of the Scion brand was to lure younger buyers back to Toyota products, but young buyers like fresh and innovative sheet metal.

Scion brand is dead in NA. Other than the FR-S the showroom is a waiting room for the Toyota dealership it is bolted to.

Interestingly, the Scion xB (158hp) and the Chrysler 200 (283hp V6) were virtually tied in fuel consumption at 9.2 and 9.3 l/100km. Not in the market for either car, but I'd have hoped the xB would be much easier on fuel than what it appears to be.

I totally understood the Lexus brand, never comprehended the Scion brand.  As for the FR-S, should just go with the GT-86 Toyota.

Why can't they move the FR-S to Toyota and call it a Celica?
and just remove the BR-Z from Subaru all together.... its ruining their image as having all their vehicles as AWD.

I kid...

From all the Scions the XB is the most comfortable to drive which makes it for an older customer like the Honda  Element. The lack of a 6 speed manual transmission and only 158 HP seams out dated for someone who wants some fun. Toyota does not do enough with the TRD department to get performance out of the engine but more for image.

The first gen xB was the coolest, it was fuel efficient and looked awesome. The second gen is a grown up beige box with an antiquated engine that loves to drink gas.

Never got the purpose of the Scion brand either, why not try to attract young people to Toyota with fun, interesting Toyotas. Are beige Camry and Corolla buyers that scared of fashionable vehicles that they would leave the showroom if they saw something that looked interesting? The whole Scion brand was ridiculous, their two Boxes Xb and Xc or whatever were ugly, really the element was a much more interesting vehicle in that genre. The coupe.....why not slap a Celica badge on it?? Without the FR-S, this brand would have gone the way of Saturn/Dodo bird.
Lighten up Francis.....
