Little weird how it's packaged.  when you pick the 1.6T over the 2.0L you are forced to get 19" rims, instead of the 17" alloys.  The 1.6T premium AWD, is the same price as a Mazda CX-5 GS AWD both are equipped pretty close.

I agree about the 19" rims.  Why should anyone be forced to get the oversized rims?  That is a very expensive set of tires for a non-luxury vehicle.  It puts the maintenance issues (new tires for one) in the luxury category.

They force you to get 19" rims in the premium trim, but get no sunroof... You have to go up to the next trim to get the panaromic,  ::)

agreed...i think a nice set of light weight 16" rims would be great...as well, with the higher sidewall possible on the smaller wheels, it could also improve the ride (in terms of handling bumps, etc)...i mean, sure, the 40 series tires are awesome for the track, and look hot in the press photos, but they are expensive when it comes time to replace them, expensive when it comes time to equip winter tires and often punish the driver on their daily commute.

Can you get a car (other than a subcompact and MX-5) with 16" rims?

Probably not any available with 16's but 19" is a ridiculous size agreed, what a silly tire size for a small CUV for every day driving.

You could draw names out of a hat and any of a dozen small SUVs would fulfill 99 percent of your needs if you regularly need room for four or five and some cargo.
For four YES. But for 5 is a stretch indeed. You have to go mid size. Unless you have 3 small kids in the back.

I find the exterior design is so well executed, better proportionate the Santa Fe Sport. However the amount of hard plastic in the inside is disturbing unfortunately, at least in the one I sat in. It turned me off so much so that I walked away from it (at the other show) and didn't bother to find out what trim it was. I hope it wasn't close to $40k. I am surprised reviewers don't comment on this.

17" should be a good size for this type of car.. maybe Hyundai will rework the trim lineup in the near future.

I was hoping Toyota would do that with the 19" rims and 20" rims for the Venza, never happened.

The Tiguan comes with 16"......P215/65R16 on the lower trim models. Sensible car.

Oh......hmm now that I think of it, I guess 17" is the new standard. The new VW Tiguan, Renault Kadjar, Merc GLA, and BMW X1 all have 17" as standard. Probably with the ever larger/heavier vehicles, larger brakes are ideal for optimum performance and thus, nudging up wheel sizes as well.

Only exception I find today is the Citroën C4 Cactus with 16" but that's a light, entry-level vehicle.

Fail to see why some Hyundai in top, top trim should cost the same as the Mazda CX-5 GT with Tech package. Pretty easy choice if $40K is the new standard price for fully-optioned compact SUVs. Hit or miss suspension/steering, never been in an H/K that was fully sorted, plus not very powerful engines - where's the supposed value? They're charging the same as the main brand names, but aren't quite there overall.
