So maybe it's not my last Merc

What's that line from Hotel California?

Glad it worked out ok.

So maybe it's not my last Merc  ;) We shall see. And as I drove away the odometer turned a new page in my car's life by passing the 100,000km mark (pics in another thread).

Wait until the warranty ends....
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

As I recall you said the rip/split seam wasn't there before the dealer worked on the seat base. Then you had to jump through hoops to get MB to pay for half when it seems like it was more of a dealer issue. In addition, you are out the $200 diagnostic fee from when the dealer told you there was nothing wrong.. Is the seat base heater fixed or just the cover replaced?  What about the air pump?

I think I'd still be pretty annoyed

You are correct on all points. I did not see the rip when I dropped the car off the first time but there is no way I can prove it so my choices were to leave it as is (ripped), fix it or replace it. The replacement was the easier and eventually the least expensive option.
I can't say if the heater problem has been solved by the replacement as it's too hot to try.
The air pump is a DIY job - $270 part and 30 minutes of labour (with beer breaks), so even at 50% off it's still ~$1000 at the dealer. The car will continue to run fine with the secondary air pump busted, so I'll order the part and replace it when it breaks. It may never break, who knows.
The blower motor was also a DIY job.
Of course it's scary at first when you see the dealer quote but the dealer doesn't hold you hostage as you have other options (unless it's a powertrain issue).

I am planning to do a little write up after about a year or 20,000km.

The blower motor was also a DIY job.

That's good - many MB models require massive dash dismantling to gain access to the blower fan assembly.  Though if the owner of those models had replaced an AC evaporator, then the blower fan seemed simple...

I found servicing of the cars VERY DIY friendly (oil changes, filters, brake jobs, etc) but non-routine repairs were hit/miss in terms of simplicity.  Some things were obviously well thought out, others, well, it seemed they put a LOT of thought into making it as difficult as possible.

A friend has a 1990 SL500, and even all these years later it's a wonderful car to drive, but OMG, servicing and repairs are among the worst of any MB I've seen.  He spends a significant portion of the value on the car each year, ugh.

This time I will be brief.
Last year, the driver seat ripped along the seam. MB covered the part, I covered the labour. Cost me about ~$200
Last week, the passenger seat ripped the exact same way (pictures attached). You can barely see it if you just look at it.

But that's not the end of the story...

Plagued MB Tex interior.

Here's the solution from MB. Anyone see a problem with that?

If it were me, I would just live with the rip.  Probably just sew it up so it doesn't spread or get worse.

Not surprised at the part cost at all.  I'm also not surprised at the wear issue.  MB Tex has become thinner and less durable.   ::)

That was a literal translation.  Germans don't say that.  Most likely they'd say "Leck mich am Arsch!"

The kicker is it was just under $500 a year ago. Now they are saying MB will not allow them to replace just the bottom piece, it has to be both the seat bottom and the seat back. But still, $2,800 for 3sq.ft of plastic???? Really? WTF?

I think I might be starting another thread soon in another section...

Find an aftermarket auto upholstery repair place.  Bet they can repair it for significantly less.

Yup.  The Tex in my C230 split prematurely and I took it to an upholstery shop and the total bill was about what he paid in labour.
