Yeah most likely what I will do is drive the 335 for another year or so, maybe get into spring 2017 and get myself a GTI before the warranty runs out.

Has anyone here tried or have a Mazda 3 GT, how do they compare?

Going from Bimmer 335 to Mazda 3 (doesn't matter what trim)? You will regret it. I am a Mazda fan. :)

Yeah, that's a better idea. The financing rate offered is a yellow flag regarding the situation you're in.

good idea! and you should also be able to get the updated version as I believe the Golf is due for a refresh in 2017.

MK8 comes out in 2017 in Europe so 'we' won't see it until 2018 or even 2019.  And hopefully the Club Sport version makes it over here.

I don't think the Mk8 is coming before '18 or '19 and there's supposedly a facelift coming before that.

I don't think Hammy's had a lot of luck with FCGs... maybe better for him to get a well-sorted Mk7 GTI *before* they bring out an all-new version.

I drove 680km back to my parents for the weekend. Met up a friend who just got a brand new VW GTI. I was able to lure him out of the city and we went on an extended drive around the countryside; unfortunately the roads here aren't as good as my home but enough to find some of the charm in the GTI. He did most of the driving, I was the co-pilot ("take this bend at .....80km/h.....yes I'm sure......the car will take it...") but at one point we swapped sides so I had a short go.

GTI is a great car. No BMW, but still great and well-rounded. Suspension and brakes well-sorted, manual gearbox easy to use requiring no second thought. A hair more power than I'd need but the build quality was excellent. This was the 2nd time I'd driven a GTI (I test drove one last year) and nothing more than a confirmation that it's the hot hatch to get. He got a killer deal on it too.

What a coincidence. I, too, might get a GTI. Maybe tomorrow. Probably by the weekend.

Changing careers. Leaving a contractor and my F150 company vehicle, and need to get something to get me around Ontario as a self-employed consultant. Don't want or need a flashy badge (can cause some backlash). Always liked the GTI, and almost bought one back in 2007 when I decided on the TSX instead.

Test drove one today and really liked it. Invoice is about 9% less than MSRP of $37,200 for the 5 door Autobahn with tech package but no leather. Got a pretty decent first offer of $2800 (7.5%) off from the dealer, before taxes. Financing over 60 months comes to ~$700/mo, all in. I need to check that math.

Can't decide between red and dark grey metallic.

Looked at Mazda3 GT but I just don't think it's in the same league. Might have a look at a WRX, but no hatch...

DSG. My wife has to be able to drive it. She refuses to learn stick. Maybe I shouldn't yell at her while trying to teach?

As far as PP goes, I don't need a track car. AWD and the extra capabilities of the R would be nice, but we will always have a big SUV in the fam, and I don't really need fast. I'm happy with quick and nimble.

I'll take another look at the PP, but then the price jumps to the R. It's difficult for me to justify the premium for either.

That's a really good price. I have a red Autobahn, it's a fantastic car. About to hit 45k and my only issue has been a failed oil temp sensor.

DSG or manual?  Are you going to consider the performance pack?  The brake, diff, and suspension (and tire) upgrades are very significant and makes it a very capable track car but that may not be what you are looking for.

It sucks that PP forces you to take the tech package too.

Done deal. 2016 GTI Autobahn with DSG and tech package. Carbon grey metallic with leather. Red with cloth was my first option, but not available until June. No Performance Package :( ....but I'm never going to track it, and my understanding is that the LSD is debatably better in the snow. I actually did offer $2000 more for a PP one, but they came back with $2800 more, and this purchase had already creeped up in price enough. Got $3000 off MSRP, with freight/PDI, plus about $250 in other fees on top of that. Then HST added, of course. And it's on the lot.

Still have to go through the whole finance manager thing. There were other people in line ahead of me and I didn't feel like waiting for him. That'll be Monday.

Nice to be back. You guys are still my go-to group for deciding what to buy, or what to recommend. When I bought my TSX, there was a flurry of TSXs on the forum. Now that people are into GTIs, who am I to say no? And I know how you guys live vicariously through the purchases and resulting crushing debt of others.

I always liked the car, since the Mk5 was my second choice in 2007. I loved the test drive of the 2015 last week. I just disliked the dealer at Martin Grove, and they had those rust control module ads everywhere - like they actually worked or something. Maple VW was much better to deal with, and didn't push any pseudoscience on me.
