...and I almost joked in our other forum discussion about the upcoming awd VW wagon that it would only come as a pseudo-SUV jacked-up version  :P

Hopefully, the regular-height wagon will also be available with awd.

Yeah....I think that may be wistful thinking now....

However....

Tetzlaff also confirmed Volkswagen Canada has expressed their desire sell a Golf Alltrack in Canada with both the 1.8 TSI turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder and 2.0 TDI turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engines. They’ve also requested both engines be available with manual and automatic (DSG) transmissions, but the number of cogs for the manual options are up in the air.

This is looking REALLY good.

Yeah...no...no they couldn't.  ;D  With that being said, Comfortline AWD with diesel at $32k, I would drop my WRX thoughts and get this.

I wonder if you could put lowering springs on it to get to a more normal ride height.

I love that they are bringing and AWD wagon. Blown away that a manual will be an option.  Disappointed they felt the need to "Allroad" it.

^^ just to be a killjoy, the article said only that VW Canada has "requested" a manual, not that we'll actually get one.

Why?  Otherwise it's just the Golf Wagon with AWD.......................

Ahem, exactly?  The "Allroad" makes it cost more, and therefore more favourable to corporate.  And they can do it - people will absolutely prefer this over the FWD Golf Wagon, assuming it's not >$3,000 more for AWD and ground clearance.

Assuming they price it similarly to the Tiguan, this will sell.

and based on the 2014 Golf Wagon, there is a diesel with 6MT option at $26,375.

Assume $3,000 premium for the 'all-track' AWD and ground clearance, and you're at $29,375 for trendline.  +$1,700 for Comfortline and the pricing, while high-ish, will be reasonable.

My thoughts on pricing:  full equipped (TDI, DSG, 18" wheels, leather, etc.) @ $37,000 + PDI / Destination.

That puts it a good 20% over a current Golf Wagon Highline and slots in perfectly between the standard Wagon and a loaded Tiguan.  Plus, any higher and they risk folks jumping upwards in the VAG to the Audi Allroad.

Now, the question is whether or not they'll make it available in that awesome red color and equipped with the wheels in that picture.  If so, I'll be the first in line.

Manual?  I hate to say this but no thanks.  I need a car I can drive comfortably in traffic and regardless of what the purists wail about, I'm only interested in a DSG for something like this.

I think that's a pretty good sign though. VW Canada has consistently offered manuals in cars that are auto-only in the U.S. (various Golfs, Passats, CCs, etc).

in the states, it appears they will be getting both the golf sportwagen in awd and the pumped up allroad....errr alltrack but no manual.

when they announced the golf R sportwagen they said it came with the dual clutch and didn't mention a manual for that either.   hummmmmmmm

The Golf R wagon is DSG-only even in Europe, I believe.

"It will be the first all-wheel drive Volkswagen model built at their plant in Puebla, Mexico." Great....just ask Honda, Ford etc. how that worked out for them.

New production cars don't exactly have stellar quality results. Now with made in Mexico stamp you can add a factor of questionable production issues to the mix.

I like the concept of the vehicle but I'll take my VW's from Dutch land.

in fairness to the Mexican production...

it's a new AWD vehicle vs being produced in a new Mexican plant (i believe)
so I'm thinking production quality itself shouldn't be any worse than VW products currently being made.

wonder if the TDI will be assembled in Mexico as well.
last time I followed VW production, the TDI models still got made in Germany.

a Golf Wagon with NAV rings at $34k before taxes...that doesn't include any technology package. So if you meant $37k before taxes, you might be right.

Yup.

It will just be interesting to see how our weaksauce Canadian dollar factors into the new VW prices come 2015.
