Fantastic car by any standard but you could get a loaded Tesla plus a stripped Leaf for the price.

The Tesla would be the 550's equal in most performance areas and superior in some others.   I'm guessing that the MB is more luxurious but I doubt it is a better driving machine.

I don't think these cars are purchased by people who are comparing prices. The buyer of this vehicle wants something indulgent, which can travel long distances in total comfort, without the decidedly un-subtle noise and aggression of the AMG version.

The following might be the best thing I have ever read in a review on this site:

My wife and I took the Merc for a day trip though Niagara wine country, and yes, we had to wear some pretty fancy duds just to complete the picture. It was a chilly day but my hands were toasty thanks to the heated steering wheel and… Oh. My. Gawd. Heated armrests! Well, I sure as hell can’t live without that particular luxury anymore. Seriously.

We’ll see them in a Kia Rio soon.

What I can live without is the $500 scent atomizer in the glove box that infuses the cabin with “Eau de Mistress”. Honey, I got some splainin’ to do.

from my prev. AMG fascination event, i can tell you that I would personally choose NON-AMG for all things other than SLK and C class..


that E class non AMG coupe was i think the best car i've ever driven..  (that now includes the SLS AMG Black!!!)

Beautiful car!  I didn't think that of the last few generations of the big coupe.  They had lots of presence, but were also awkward looking and certainly not drool worthy.  This is the best looking MB in a long time imo.

If we had a proper Ont. government they wouldn't charge sales tax on such a car.   Just to encourage people who have 'made it' and have good taste as well to buy such a thing to stay in Ontario and not move to Alberta.

For some reason, I still think "glass cannon" when I see high end German cars these days. Far too many horror stories.

This article actually got me browsing the Maserati site for the first time.  That GranTurismo is still a very sexy car.
