We are looking to downsize with our next car.

There is much I like about the Subaru Forester (but no diesel)

I like the VW Golf Wagon but no AWD.

Is there anything coming down the pipe for 2015 which fits the bill?

I was thinking that in NA there would be more diesel offerings coming available over the next several years.

For example I had read/heard that the VW Golf Wagon (with diesel) was getting VW's version of AWD ("4Motion") for 2016.


(But I guess with each subsequent MY there will be less true manuals offered).

How about a 1992 Land Cruiser? Its even left hand drive and it seats 7!!

Someone here posted a program where you can import a BMW to Canada. It doesn't look like a cheap program though, even the most bare bones 3 series touring with base engine, RWD, petrol engine starts from 32,000 EUR ($45k).

Do you mean the Euro delivery?   I am pretty sure that is available but not advertised much and of course you can only import a Canadian spec car just the same as the dealer would have here anyway.

Why the need for diesel? Gasoline engines have caught up in efficiency and power.

Like others have said, move to Europe or drop the diesel requirement and you'll have a solution.

vast majority of the 2015 models are already here.  Something evenly remotely close you could be looking at 2016-2018 models, but I doubt if even those will fit your criteria.  Your going to have to be more flexible or forget it.

VW + an extra set of wheels with top rated winter tires on them. And maybe a winch if you're gonna off road it.

I had made mention of this in one of my posts. Specifically it appears that the GOLF WAGON TDI may have "4Motion" (AWD) for the 2016 MY.

You are right. I would imagine that such an equipped vehicle would be in excess of $40k (excluding taxes).

I think you're going to have to choose between the AWD and Diesel or Diesel and Manual Transmission.

I don't even think the Cayenne Diesel option came with a manual option this side of the pond

I thought my choice was between MT + AWD (= Subaru) OR Diesel + MT (=Golf Wagon)
