Saw my first Colorado last night. So nice, absolutely no reason to even look at this thing, so ancient. ;D

Can I get one with a double cab and manual transmission?

I was building one for fun, and it doesn't look like you can get a manual at all in the 4x4, even in the work truck with the four-banger.

Oh, okay, so maybe that was a rhetorical question?  ;D Just looked again and it appears no manual at all on the Colorado. Thought I read that one was going to be available, but I guess not.  ???

Okay, okay... looks like manual is available, but only on 2WD, extended cab Work Truck.

Oh, I agree that crew cabs are far more practical and that it would be tough to live with a regular (or even extended) cab. I'm just saying they don't look right on a compact truck.

We had a discussion about this a while ago... http://www.autos.ca/forum/index.php/topic,74768.msg729592.html#msg729592

I don't agree that crew cabs are more practical if a longer box in the priority, which it is in my case. We find the ext cab to be perfect for the stuff that needs to be inside the truck. The rear seat is always up and I don't think I've ever had anyone sit in the back. So we get a 6.5 foot box without a ridiculous wheel base and still have inside storage behind the front seats. My truck hauls building material not people and I follow the 2-man per truck rule for hunting. Perfectly practical for this old boy.

Hey, I do not haul air http://www.autos.ca/forum/index.php/topic,75218.msg735590.html#msg735590
Would have gotten a crewcab but could not get 6-4 box in a crew in 2011

I had two of these (crew cab + 6.5 box) when the kids were small and while they were great trucks, the damn wheel base was annoying for city driving.

But to go from 5-7 to 6-4 is only 9"
I do not spend that much time in the big smoke

The crew cab added 17 inches to the wheel base IIRC.

From GMC website it only 10 inches on the overall length 229 to 239

Go away, unless you can put some meaning into a post!
...and this adds meaning how?

If you read his other posts, they are all the same. Trolling....

thanks James for answering how the size feels..

Quote
I think they (not just Toyota, but everyone) jumped the shark when they started making crew cabs in compact trucks. If you want a small truck, fine, get a small truck. Trying to cram a crew cab into a compact just doesn't work. If you want a crew cab, then get a full-size.

here's the thing though.
in our application, we wanted a crew cap (full 4 doors and a 6ft box)
5 feet was too small and 5.5ft isn't available on the Tacoma.  5.5ft I could likely get away with.

The 6ft box is perfect for our application in the bike setup and having room to spare to place crap in the back still.
While the extended cab would still gives us plenty of space for gear when we're two people, the crew cab is the way to go if you're someone who plans to have 4 people traveling.

As mentioned in the pass on this forum, my friend has the same truck as me (2013 crew cab / 6ft box)
He wanted a manual but HAD TO HAVE the 6ft box, that wasn't an option so he was stuck with an auto.
We packed all our gear and our 4 mountain bikes with the four of us driving down 8 hours to Vermont.
My wife is very small and was plenty comfortable, I'm 5'9" and being in the back was fine.  8hrs was a little long in the back without stopping but it wasn't that bad.

As the review mentions, you can certainly fell the extra length the 4 doors and 6ft add but I've yet to have a situation in which driving around felt too big or long.
I even had a stint driving in and out of downtown Toronto at the tail end of rush hour and never felt too big / long

I used to think any truck of mine had to have an 8' box, but with all the bed extension options available now that isn't a deal killer any more.

Im contemplating one of these for carrying 8-10" lumber and drywall......

Lighten up Francis.....

I've got one although not that brand. Bought for hauling the canoe in duck hunting season...all gear was in the canoe and all we had to do was slide out into the marsh fully loaded. Works great. Only in my case I had nearly 9 feet of canoe sticking out beyond the lowered tailgate.

16' is a pretty standard length for a canoe, but 17' or 18' is not uncommon.

Yea, mine's just a normal 17 foot canoe. So about 8.5 feet or so in the box/on the gate and that much again hanging out the back.

A friend of mine has an extender on his Tacoma for his kayak and it's such a breeze to get on and off.  My roof rack mount is a real hassle by comparison... :P
