2017 Mazda 6 coupe
« on: October 30, 2014, 11:09:01 am »
So AutoExpress is reporting that Mazda is working on a coupe version of the 6 sedan. A two door coupe, not some sort of CC competitor.

This could be a good successor to the second-gen MX-6, which was highly regarded when it debuted in 1992 and looked nothing like the sedan. Could be very interesting!

Hopefully power goes to the right wheels and they don't stick one of those boat anchor rotaries inside.
Lighten up Francis.....

I think we can say with confidence that this car will be FWD.

But hey, at least it won't have a rotary!

What a shame.....pity to waste such a good looking car with front wheel drive.

I remember when the MX-6 Mystere came out.

It is still a great looking car.

I have a hard time imagining that this 6 coupe would outsell a 6 wagon.

I'd be willing to bet a dollar a coupe version of the MX5 is more likely than this.

I'd love to see an MX5 coupe.

Looks good!  Competition for the Accord Coupe.

There is already one of those. the Toyobaru FR-S/BRZ.

I think this would be a more realistic iteration (though photoshopped):

From that, it's clear that this will be an Accord Coupe competitor, but with only I4 power, I'm wondering if it will truly cater to the crowd.

Given that the Mazda6 platform is shared with the CX-5 (i.e. there's space for the rear drive shaft), I wouldn't think that a RWD or an AWD Mazda6 would be difficult to build...

I only say never because I don't listen to Bieber or his instructions.

^^ That looks really good and classy. Less "bloated" looking than the Accord Coupe.

I think it looks good, but I'm not sure that the niche is large enough that it'll sell in any appreciable volumes.  Poor Mazda - it tries so hard...

That would be a major hit. An affordable RWD and great handling coupe with the reputation that comes with an MX5. It would be perfect!....so it will never happen  :'(

Why would the 6 coupe not sell?  Does the Accord Coupe not sell?  The photoshopped image NoTo provided looks terrific.  Reminds me of an Audi A5.

While cool looking I'd be shocked if it ever happens. I also think Mazda could easily sell more Miata coupes than 6-coupes.
