But, I completely disagree about the exhaust note.  To me, it's trying far too hard (especially in the V-8) and is obnoxious and sounds contrived.  The rowdy exhaust of the Mercedes 63 cars sounds purposeful and necessary to make so much power.  The tone of the C7 sounds "well, I am basically a race car, but I had to be street legal."  The impossible to live with BOSS302 exhaust matches the over-the-top looks and "I just arrived from a 1970 Trans Am race!!" character.

Uh, I think you mean agree about the exhaust note. I did think it was too loud and obnoxious (embarrassing even), as well as too high-pitched.

Funny that, I liked it in the convertible more... I guess I expect a bit more seriousness from a coupe.

Not me.   Not a REAL Jaguar at all.     Now a properly restored 3.8 Mk II sedan  which would probably cost as much...that would be tempting.

Agreed, but there's no money in this gig for the boys (and girl) so they this is their way to be paid - F Type road tests. ;)
Civic tests, although more useful to the readership are not fulfilling. I mean, Toronto to New York and back in a Civic? ;)

/\ You're speaking to the guy who drove a Micra from Calgary to Vancouver with a two-year-old.

Anyway, next week on Autos, is the F-Type better than a cup of tea and a chocolate-covered digestive biscuit? Enquiring minds want to know.

Ed: "Actually, Brendan, I think we've had enough-"

I SAID: ENQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW.

Oh sure - Mini Cooper with said two-year-old around the Olympic peninsula, Highlander to Pemberton, Santa Fe (with in-laws and kid) to Aspen, Honda Odyssey to Montana, Outback to Portland. I do far more regular cars than high-falutin' stuff. Er, pay no attention to the upcoming Cayman GTS review...

Beautiful car in all ways. Still, I can't pull my gaze from that E-type in the background.

This is my issue with so many cars today.

When it comes to performance, cars are better now than ever. However, are there any that will still be drooled over simply for their looks 50 years from now???

Because Sir William Lyons has been dead for years.

I am not saying that this new car is not a very good car...never driven one so I don't know.

Gone too are the days of individuals becoming synonymous with a brand.... David Brown, Ferruccio Lamborghini, Enzo Ferrari, Colin Chapman...

While there are modern examples, such as John Bloor/Triumph Motorcycles and Elon Musk/Tesla, I don't think they have the same flare as the aforementioned examples.

I'M OLD AND ANYTHING NEW IS STUPID!

I'm not old, but the new Jaguars could have come from anyone. They aren't even close to the distinctiveness of their previous models.
If you're into generic luxury, I guess it's fine, but the brand in its current iteration has pretty much lost its appeal to me.

I don't think anyone who has actually heard one in the flesh could say that with a straight face.

Maybe you need to do a few more articles to convince us?  ;D

Better yet, arrange for test cars to be dropped off at all our homes. I think I could develop a better opinion of the car if I had a chance to drive it for say, 5-15 years.

Does this car have the ageless wonder of the MkII or E-type? Time will tell. In the meantime. I'd love to have be able to afford one.

I disagree. Jaguars today may not look like Jaguars from a decade ago, but they still have their own style. They've simply evolved from a look that they had for decades which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I saw a brand new XF yesterday and thought the design was quite striking. I definitely turned my head to watch it go by.
