1973 BMW 3.0 CS Restoration (my Uncles')
« on: October 20, 2014, 12:47:34 pm »
I drove this car for about three years back in West Australia. It was one of my favourite cars of all time.
It's been parked for a while, and my cousin took it out of the shed a while back for a bare-metal resto.
The first photo was another one that's identical just to show you what it looked like. The second pic is our one, the day it came back out of the shed. The bloke with it is my cousin.
The engine is being rebuilt too, because the piston rings were fried.

What an awesome car! Definitely one of my favourites.

I also owned one of these, but I sold it a few years ago. I didn't have the time (or skills) to restore it myself, and the cost of having it done properly was ridiculous - it would have been cheaper just to buy a rust-free one from California (which was still not exactly cheap.)

Looks like your cousin has some work ahead of him. Looking forward to pics of the progress.

Nice! These were enthusiastic rusters so hopefully it isn't too bad. Well worth saving. I like the colour too

This one had very, very little. Rear fender behind the wheel on the right-hand side, front wheel arch a little bit, front clip where the bonnet mounts were, and under the fuel tank in the boot. We were surprised.
Oh, and under the front bumper where someone at some point smashed it on a rock - but not sure who or how or when....

Our Landie on the other hand...  :o

Great looking car. I've always had a fondness for the 3.0 CS and the 1972 BMW 2002.

Back in 1986 I got the opportunity to drive my cousins red 72 2002 in a rally paper overseas.
It involved a scavenger hunt with cars. I don't recall how we place but we had a blast pushing the car to it's legal limits.  ;)

Look forward to progress and final result.

I had a 1974 2002tii that I was in the middle of a complete restoration of when it was stolen and chopped into little pieces.   :'(

I'd done the driveline including a complete redo of the engine bringing it close to 200hp, and that car was a LOT of fun to drive.

Yep. Mine was a motorbike, but same feeling. Utter despair.
