Like many others, a relative of mine who needed to add 1l of oil every 5k km in her new 2014 Subaru Forester was told by Subaru that they need to open the engine (40k km)...
Is this what I call reliable??
Where is this even coming from?  ...and do you know what you're even saying, "open the engine"...?

I have never had to add a drop of oil in almost 4 years with my 2011 Forester XT (EJ255).  Nor has anyone that I've spoken to in Ithaca, NY, where everyone owns a Subaru.

It's an old issue in the EJ25 that was rectified with the FB25, and even then it wasn't in 'every' car.

Most (if not all) manufacturers list a tolerance for oil consumption in the operators manual.  I would guess that 1L every 5k kms would be within Subaru's tolerance.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

oh wow...it sounds like you are lucky NoTo...there's a possible class-action lawsuit against Subaru for the oil consumption issue with the EJ255: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2014/07/18/subaru-oil-burner-lawsuit/12859865/

Class-action lawsuits...

Yeah.  Right.  That's determinative of a problem.

it doesn't determine one, but...where there's smoke there's probably fire.

Many Subarus in my group of friends (climbers and skiers love 'em) and most are very reliable vehicles that take serious abuse and keep on going.  My 01 is well past it's "expiry date and mileage" and has been one of the most reliable cars we've owned.

CR rates them highly too.

Three Subarus since 2008. Never needed to add a drop of oil between changes. I actually can't think of an unscheduled trip to the dealer for anything.

:hello:  My 97 OBW was one of the worst cars I've owned for reliability.  Lots of trips to the dealer for mostly minor issues, but also got stranded twice and both times needed a tow to the dealer.  Strangely enough I still like them... :P

Our Fozzie has not been treated all that well (thanks to Lady Noto's dad taking over control of the vehicle and figuring "it's leased, who cares about maintaining it"...until we bought it out *sigh*).  It went the first 18,000km before getting a single bit of maintenance done on it.  Pissed me the :censor: off, but despite 18,000km, the EJ255 didn't consume a drop of oil.  Before we took it in, I checked the stick and it showed a full reservoir.

2015 Honda CRV fails Swedish magazine traction test.

http://www.autoblog.com/2014/10/24/honda-cr-v-fails-swedish-awd-test/

Find it odd that Honda with the new 2015 changes incurred would not address a weak point of the CRV the minimal AWD system and add something like their SH-AWD system to a revised model.

But as the 6th best selling vehicle is the U.S. maybe they don't have to. Way to go Honda keep resting on those laurels !.

Mrs Red and I like the look, packaging and pricing of the new CRV but as Subaru owners we can't justify a newer vehicle with an inferior drive system. Like the Mitsu S-AWC system. Not much of a fan otherwise.

Strange that Honda was able to pass the same test with a software update on the previous gen that had also failed. The CRV AWD system has never been stellar to start with.
