Wow 75km?  Didn't think it was that bad.  I've got a 25km commute each way that would have me worried.  Too bad.

Yes, if you can't recharge at work it can get tight for some. But 75 km is for -20C or so. We do get a few days like that here.

The lowest I've ever seen my range estimation was -24C morning, car read 72km from full.
Drove it for a few cold days, blasting defrost and heated seats, and the estimate is surely very conservative.

A 50km round trip commute is not an issue in the Leaf, and no problem for my Smart ED, no matter the conditions.

BTW congrats on your new Leaf, welcome to a wonderful and silent commute. :-)

My family loves our little Smart ED.  I consider it a "gateway drug" to the Tesla I want.
My wife prefers it over the Mercedes, and if I'm not out of the door early enough, she takes it!

I saw a Leaf with winter tires and steelies on it today, ready for the Manitoba winter.

Got over 700 km on the car and love it so far. Very nice car to drive around town, comfy, good torque, quiet. Got 240 Volts plugs both at home and at the cottage so we use it all the time now. The telematics are nice and it's fun to start the heating while having breakfast and with the car plugged in, the current draw is form the grid, not the car battery.

Electricity turns out to 1.4 cent/km. This table shows the electricity consumption for 551 kms. it shows the total electricity used, how much was regenerated and the net draw from the grid. $7.51 for 551 kms.  ;D

You should graph your ranges.  I like this graph... don't like the results though.  I wonder how often the green line can be achieved, it looks optimistic but would be awesome if true.

Hello Wing,

My results so far seem to match the Blue line, about 125 to 135 km of real range in 0 to 10C temp; and thats true range, at the end of the day when I go to recharge,  not the figure you get at start up in the morning with a full charge where it will show as much as 175 kms.

The blue line may be acheivable by hypermiling and using the ECO mode but no thanks, I'd rather use my bicycle then.  ;D

Right, because paying a buck more is a bank breaker?
Seriously, I charge overnight at $0.15 (or less) all-in, making my EV 5x cheaper than a gas car.

Ontario or Quebec, doesn't matter.  What matters is how far you drive, and do you have two cars in your driveway (so you have a long range trip car).

I am opposed to any expansion of Nuclear power.  We are closing rapidly on being able to deploy far cheaper technologies which don't require the massive capital cost and long term decommissioning costs of Nukes.

I am thinking of installing a solar array, but not using micro-fit, rather, using "net meter" (any solar produced reduces your usage, you don't get paid for power production).

I could deploy slowly over time, and move up in 2KW in increments.
A 2KW array to start would be cheap to deploy, and give me some experience I could use to expand it later.

It was interesting that in Israel, where there is nothing but rock, sand and sunshine, I did not see any panels
Israel has to import all of its oil to produce electric
You would think there would be panel everywhere
Did see you trails for 4x4s

Maybe in up front cost, but check out my blog post where it turns out solar would get me to work and back for $25/month.

Installed the winter wheels and tires last Thursday. Went 1 size down to 16" from the summer 17" (V rated tires BTW???) Fast, anthracite wheels with Nokian Hakka R2 tires. Not as smooth and comfortable as the Michelin's OEM's but they seem quite efficient with low rolling resistance.

Nice look on the rims!   I'm going to try to get another winter out of my OEM's, but it was a bit of a gamble on a few very cold days when the low rolling resistance summer tires are at their worst.  I needed to leave an extra 20 feet for stopping from 60 km/h.
