I wear sunglasses while driving.  My sunglasses are polarized.  I could not see 80% of the screen through my polarized lenses.
have you not had issues with the polarized lenses before?
In the Corolla, I can't really see the clock (which is horribly mounted any way), nor the radio stations clearly.

...but the system is so basic that it doesn't matter.  If, however, I was reading a Navi screen, it would be more problematic.

I don't have any problem reading the Navi screen in our 2011 Forester XT Limited, nor in our Lexus RX400h with polarized sunglasses on.

I had completely forgotten to read this until now. Great read! Thanks NoTo!
Thanks!!!

You need to drive the new STi.  I haven't driven the '15 WRX, but have some seat time in the STi, and it's everything that Subaru go-fast fanatics have been asking for for ages: the chassis that the engine deserves.

The STi looks harder to live with day to day, but the goodies you get make it worth it, imho.  The torque vectoring and DCCD AWD system alone are worth every nickel.  Add in the rest of the stuff, and it's a great buy.

The older STi was a "see saw the wheel" car when driving hard.  The new one?  A Samurai sword in comparison.  Sure, it's still got a little more body roll than the knock-your-fillings-out slot cars, but the car is SO much faster in the corners now, I'm sure there's plenty of giants that are about to be slayed.

Bonus?  The old 2.5L driveline is known for being unbreakable and has a TON of not-horrendously-expensive go-fast goodies that make it pretty easy to turn the car into a 450hp beast.

Get the base car with no wing.  It looks awesome.

While I see the added value of the STi over the WRX, I don't think it's value to me.  For highway jaunts and a daily-driver, the WRX is more than enough car for me :)

A $32k WRX I can justify.  Can't justify spending any more than that.

Wow, nice write up, and I too am not sure why I missed this except it is in a section I don't regularly check out.

I particularly liked the EyeSight insight, as I am struggling with having it or not on my next Subaru.  I do a lot of night driving and with the exploding deer (and other critters) population, this sounds like it may actually be a good choice in the long run, thanks for that.

I wonder how well the EyeSight system works at night. Wouldn't a radar-based system be better?

Not sure exactly how it works...maybe it combines the use of infrared?

I agree on the Eyesight comment.   It's not something I ever would have actually wanted.
But now, with NOTO's review and my wife looking to buy a Crosstrek.....  she hates night driving, has a hard time with it and we have plenty of deer in the area (MIL hit one this fall).   I think it's something that would add value and peace of mind for my wife (and me)

Eyesight will have no effect for avoiding deer day or night.

You need an infrared system for night.

Just replying to Blotter.

Are you referring to this line of BS:

No, an adult Buck (that's a male deer for you non-deer folk) jumped in front of the car.  There are many suicidal deer in upstate New York, but this deer was particularly hoping for death.  Fortunately for us, and unfortunately for him (or fortunately if you don't like my humour), EyeSight saw him before I did and stopped a full ~5 feet short of hitting him as he was the stereotypical deer in the headlights.

I can get if you have technical opinion that the feature wouldn't work at night but calling NOTO's line BS?
For some reason I don't believe you would have been in the car with him...
There's absolutely no reason for him to BS his review.

The cameras take stereo images to show vehicles and other obstacles in front and can even detect pedestrians if you’re driving under 30 km/h.

No pics .... didn't happen.  :)

Educate yourself about Eyesight before you buy.  It's appears to be top notch on keeping set distances, particularly on interstate type roads.
