2015/16 Elio
« on: September 27, 2014, 10:45:25 am »
Elio

Would you buy one of these for 6500....84 miles to the gallon. I'm sure it will cost more by the time it hits the road. I'm not even sure if would ever see one on these shores even. But I thought it was interesting all the same.

I'm not sure it could do a Canadian winter with wheels stick out like that. because that would get filled with ice and freeze on a long jouney on say the 401.

interesting for sure... if can-am can sell those snowmobile trikes, i don't see why people wouldn't actually pay a premium for something as interesting with other positives...

would i drive it?... might not work for my commute... otherwise... no... probably still not.

Works just like a normal car. Could be a blast on the 401 in the Big TO.

Have been following this since the onset. Love the idea. Have even had email conversations with the company founders.

I really want these guys to succeed.

Me too.

Hey you should asked them - is the Elio coming to Canada. If so what about the wheels sticking out like that - Is that a good idea for snow and ice?

I think the Elio has more exposed parts.

things like this make for a good third car.

I can see this being a drive to work (alone) kinda ride.

I did ask.  They said it will be coming to Canada...but no timeline has been established.

Another try at the Reliant Robin idea, with the three wheels the right way round this time. Hopefully doesn't end up going broke like the Aptera.

All three wheelers ever built:

Does anyone know if Canadians can still buy these cars anyway? Like have it shipped to Blaine, WA and import it?

It doesn't show up on the RIV list, so likely not admissible.

$6500?  At that price, hells yeah I'd want one.  But if it's like other "economy" cars like the Mini, etc, that end up really expensive, then forget it.  I don't want to spend $10-20K over the price of a Corolla to save enough gas to pay it back in 100 years.

What's the max price you'd pay for an Elio?

Have to see it to evalute the value proposition.  Sub $10K would have my serious attention.

In Ontario...you need to wear a helmet for all 3 wheelers.  What if you had to wear a helmet in the Elio?  Deal breaker?

Nah.  Hell, I'm thinking of wearing one in the Miata...

 ;D

Seriously, no.
