The active flap is used by BMW to increase complexity fuel efficiency...

I have to wonder just how much that increases fuel economy.  I've owned a LOT of German cars in the past, and I've seen some pretty dubious crap that seemed like nothing more than complexity for the sake of it.  Sure, plenty of cool stuff that worked, but no shortage of things that seemed like they added them just to put more stuff in the brochure.

I only closes for the first 30 to 60 seconds after start up so it seems totally useless to me.  EXCEPT FOR MAKING HORRIBLE RATTLING NOISES.

How about a set of flowmasters or borla mufflers?? I guarantee it will be cheaper and will not rattle.
Lighten up Francis.....

Mistakes happen. An extra week with a noisy muffler is hardly worth getting "absolutely livid" over, IMO.

I'd be livid.  This is HIS time they are f-ing with.  Now he has to come back AGAIN because of THEIR f-up.  And waste his time AGAIN.

It's not like he sprung this service on them at the last minute.  This was booked in advance.

Hey, I'd be disappointed too. For sure, it's an inconvenience.

But what do you mean by being livid? Having a tantrum and berating the service writer?

Let's get some perspective here: It's a noisy muffler and some pedal covers. First world problems...

No tantrums, I told them I wanted the new muffler shipped ASAP and would be calling BMW Canada to make sure they did what they could for me and also told them I was disappointed there wasn't another dealership I could take my business to.  I know the poor service guy probably wasn't the one to blame but hopefully he passed the message along to someone who was.

Maybe an emissions thing to help get the cat up to temp sooner?

Just guessing on that, but I don't think it's fair to say the manufacturers just add this stuff for the heck of it. Blame ever-tightening emissions standards and CAFE rules that make every tenth of a MPG count.

I would have only charged you $100.   ;D

Only took them 5 weeks.  If it was GM we would never hear the end of it. Not saying you, but many on this forum.

Oh... You'll hear about it!   I called bmw canada to complain but they seemed to care even less than the dealership unfortunately.

Get this, they charged me for 1.1 hours labour.... Not one hour but 1.1 to get the extra ten bucks from me.... I'm in for a screw job on every visit, but at least I know up front so I can plan not to make it too easy on them.

I'm not trying to throw you under the bus...but I will.  ;D  Didn't you think you were handy enough to drill and tap a couple of holes?

I was fully expecting it.... Drilling holes in my brake pedal just felt risky to me, I don't mind doing things I can undo if I screw it up.

Well the holes are small, so no biggy if you bung up one or two.  The pedal is just plastic IIRC..

The brake is metal, accelerator is plastic.  The metal made me think twice.

The beauty about pedals is you only need 2-3 screws each.  So you have lots of places to make mistakes!!  ;D The mistakes get covered up by the pedal or the "numbs" on the pedal.

Either way...give it a crack next time.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at your skill...

I got a service email from bmw so took the opportunity to let them know my angst at the whole exhaust situation. They apologized profusely saying it was a communication problem.... That's an understatement!  Hopefully next time will be better.
