n interesting little thing i just did... searched auto trader for cars for sale 1993-1995... 270 in my area... the brands represented more than the others benz - 25, bmw - 11, toyota - 21, honda -18, lexus - 8.... of course, chev -51, ford - 27 were the big guys, but they had a lot more sold originally...

Yes always found that interesting. Would be neat to see stats as % of cars sold still on the road after 20 years.

Would suspect that MB, Toyota/Lexus, Porsche, and perhaps Honda are tops.

Among the main FGC triumvirate, it does seem like MB wins the longevity battle handily. Audi barely existed 20 years ago.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

If it looks and works great, why sell it?  ;D

You'd have to account for the number of garage queens somehow.
Having 90% of Corollas or F150s on the road at 15 years old is quite different than having 90% of 458 Italia's on the road at 15 years.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Remember that more expensive cars cost more to repair as they age...so determining which cars are still on the road is a very, very limited exercise.  Fords and Chevs sold in much larger numbers and therefore had more parts available, for cheaper, and garage nuts would repair them for not a heck of a lot of money (in many cases, they'd repair your car in exchange for a case of beer).

...anyone here want to replace a mirror motor for a case* of beer?

Legal Disclaimer:
* case = 6-pack
   beer = Pabst Blue Ribbon
   the actual cost of the parts are the sole responsibility of the person performing the repair work and cannot be exchanged for more beer.

 ;D

yeah, turns out a few of the bmw ones were actually rims anyways...

but yeah, it is an interesting exercise, but one that has it's flaws... as others said, a high end car that spends its life in a garage is hardly surprising to see on the road a decade and a half later with a 1/4 of the kms of a normal daily driver (that cost a 1/4 to purchase as well)
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Yes, which is why I restricted it to the triumvirate. I doubt the percentage of garage queen MB/BMW/Audis is really high enough to matter. Porsche etc. don't enter into the question.

I keep seeing these in my region (more than you'd expect for a large "luxury" car) - and every single time I think "wow, I want one of those".

It's going to be one of the best looking cars on the road - I prefer it to the Fusion, Mazda 6 and other favourites.

The first few times I had the "is that an Aston?" moment that I'm sure was their deliberate aping of the grill and the logo on the front. Still, impressive for a brand that's hit and miss with their styling.

I may own one of these one day.

When people say the Mazda6 and Fusion look great, they mean for a mainstream midsize sedan... You can't compare the Genesis to the mainstream midsize market.  Starting over $20k more, AWD, has a V6, and V8...
