Years means nothing, hours of seat time is what important  ;D

Age does matter to some extent as does seat time.  My dad's M-Class has 160kish kms on it.

Ours has 110k on the clock and 99.9% of the time is with the sun beating down with the top down.

i thought it was sneaky to have one or two colours not available on lower trim levels.. to only offer white or black?  that is to the point of odd...

it would make me not want a black or white expensive one for fear everyone thought i was driving a *gasp* "cheap" model....

I agree, but it's something specific to Canadian Market.  In the US Market, Honda offers a ton more colors in general.  On the LX, they have 2 colour choices less than on EX and above trims (Smokey Topaz Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl).  Overall in the US, they offer 2 more colours: Smokey Topaz Metallic and Dark Cherry Pearl.

If they had it, I probably would have gone with Smokey Topaz Metallic with the Truffle interior.

Well I am a pretty good candidate for leather wear.  2010 Mazda5 GT with leather, 90k on it.  I can count on one hand the number of times I have cleaned the leather.  Once a month they are vacuumed, once a year, I use a cleaner.  Still look as new as when I got the vehicle.  Now the Mazda6 required much more attention with cloth, and we only had 1 child at the time, and that was only for 6 months... (We didn't get rid of the child, we got rid of the car... :( )

I've found the quality of the materials is the most important thing.  Crappy leather ages poorly, splits quickly, fades, etc. The same is true of poor cloth.

I'd rather have high quality cloth than crappy leather.

the argument against leather because it does't age well is a poor one.
I don't believe I said that leather is bad because it doesn't age well.

My intention was that leather in a minivan is, in some ways, bad (and therefore not desired).  I say this specifically for a minivan - we had a 1992 Previa until 2007 (RIP) and the cloth was impeccable.  Our friend, whose exact Previa (but with leather) was taken out of service in 2005 (also RIP) had several punctures from child seat installation, toys that get sat on (plastic can be sharp), and just showed worse than our cloth.

I guess I only take issue with the fact that to get a power tailgate (which is a HUGE seller for many mommies in the minivan crowd), you must get leather in the Odyssey.  My brother wrote off the Odyssey 100% because he doesn't want leather, but must have a power liftgate.

...but hey, if Honda thinks that it won't offend any prospective buyers, then who am I to judge.

Whenever I looked at used cars, it was almost always the leather seats that looked the most worn. People on here may be able to keep leather looking good, but that doesn't seem to translate to the general population.

I was in a Ford showroom years ago and a kerfuffle erupted when someone's kid ripped the leather seat on a new Mustang, apparently by jumping on it. I'm assuming it split at the seam, which seems to be the most common place to let go.

Given that leather needs to be heated in winter and cooled in summer, it's simply not a practical seating material, but it is the current fashion to be sure. Alcantara seats are much more comfortable.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Let's look at the other minivans...

2014 Dodge Grand Caravan, you can get a $29,390 Crew with cloth and add the power sliding doors and liftgate for $1,500.

2014 Toyota Sienna SE for $39,020 with power sliding doors and liftgate has sport cloth with leather bolsters on the 1st and 2nd row. 3rd row is sport cloth only I believe. $2,500 on the hood for cash purchase.

2014 Kia Sedona EX has cloth and power sliding doors and liftgate but for a whopping $38,870. You don't even get automatic climate control at this price, which the Dodge Grand Caravan and Toyota Sienna has. Oh I see there's $7,000 on the hood cash or finance (2.99%), so bringing the effective price down to $31,870. Makes more sense at that price. I would still lean towards the Grand Caravan Crew + power convenience package.

All prices include freight + PDI and whatever tire battery levy.

See, that's the thing (I'll ignore the GC here so to not get into a yelling match)...it's always been Odyssey vs Sienna.  Of all the times I see people making the debate, I hear:

+1 Sienna because of AWD
+1 Sienna because of optioning

+1 Odyssey for better backup camera
+1 Odyssey for interior materials
+1 Odyssey for driving experience

...now that the Sienna has been refreshed, giving it a better quality interior and the better backup camera as standard, I see more folks flocking away from the Odyssey and towards the Sienna.

...just my observation - I want my brother to prefer the Odyssey, but he simply won't consider it because of no AWD and because he doesn't want leather, but 'requires' a power liftgate.

It's $43k for a 2014 7 passenger XLE AWD with cloth seats and power liftgate, but you get those neat lounge seats.

Still pricey though. Heck the Ody EX/Sienna LE are pricey. I don't see myself buying a new minivan anytime soon and who knows I won't need some of the features anymore by the time I am. For example, power sliding doors are great for young kids but a bit of a pain when you want to quickly open and close the door to grab something. For this reason, I don't want a power tailgate.

XLE comes with leather...  At least that is what my 2014 brochure says.

A friend of mine has an XLE AWD Sienna and it's as close to taking an executive jet on the ground as anything I've ever ridden in.  It's more comfortable for the passengers than the driver, particularly the second row with the full-on reclining seats.  For taking four people and a large amount of cargo, I'm not sure there's anything more capable.  Vans rule in that category.

Oh so you get standard leather with the XLE and premium leather with the Limited, but leather either way. I thought it meant cloth with XLE and premium leather with Limited.
