One of the most remarkable race days I have ever seen. Numerous rain delays, a few oil downs, and a crash, meant the racing went on until after 8 pm Sunday evening. The day's thick cloud cover made the evening dark, giving bright header flames. The nitro-catergories had their track records reset a few times with Doug Kalitta's 3.722 second run (sixth-quickest ever) ending up at the Top Fuel e.t. record. Richie Crampton set the speed mark at 328.54 mph. In Funny Car, Alexis Dejoria ran Brainerd International Raceway's first three-second Funny Car run with a 3.998 track record.
Here John Force defeats Tommy Johnson Jr. in the Funny Car semifinal.
