What's your favourite organic food place?
« on: July 31, 2014, 10:28:14 pm »
I'll start. Ambrosia whole foods I think it's called. They have now a few locations but I prefer the original one located in Thornhill, just north of TO. Lately I developed a taste for organically grown greens. I'm telling ya I could tell which is which in a blind test. What I get there all the time are eggs, pure Saugeen Country yogurt, milk, dried fruit, sprouts and different stuff they have on sale. Prices are very reasonable but parking and the store itself are rather small.
Which place do you guys shop at and where is it located?

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

No kidding. My grandparents had a small chunk of land. When growing up we never knew everything there was organic. No chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or GMOs. If something wilts or gets eaten - too bad, but there was plenty of other things to choose from.
Supporting farmers who are respectful to earth and environment is one of the reasons for me to go organic.
Oh, and this is the first summer in the past decade I have no allergies. Maybe coincidence, but I think not.
BTW. Costco now sells organic chicken.

Why not just hit a local fruit/veggie stand?

Because TO. I don't know where it's at. I see some new whole food stores opening up around here, but like with drinks, I buy what works and stick with it. This is why I wanted to know where the fellow forumers get their organics.

Oh...yea, hard to find fresh veggy stands in a city.  :)

I'm lucky...you can't walk 1km without bumping into a fresh fruit/veggy/egg stand....

And this is just down a bit from my house every Saturday  http://www.amherstburgfarmersmarket.com/

Wait, I think there was/is a farmers market by the Waldorf school in Richmond Hill. But it was only open for a few hours on Saturdays.  And had a lot of weirdo tree huggers in there  :P

I wouldn't worry about those people.  They're actually a good thing because they are fanatical about fresh/local/organic/pesticide-free, etc etc...

There's a few of them at our farmer's market and they have incredible stuff!!

I go early and find plenty of parking close by. Go with an empty stomach and have an awesome breakfast. We try to buy all our meat there.

What blows my mind are the people fanatical about eating organic and no-spray produce, but perfectly content to live with skull and bone signs in their yard from their chemically treated lawns and stuff.  The last neighborhood I lived in was so bad at times from acrid chemical odour that it almost made us sick.  Many of these same chemicals are known to be killing off the bee population which is responsible for pollinating most of this produce ffs!    So dumb!  ::)
