Hi everyone.

I am new here and maybe my question is a bit bold, so my apologies. I needed a car as mine was starting to suffer from it's 212k km, but after shopping for months, the Blue Book/Black Book/List price/Invoice cost thing was driving me nuts... So I bought what I thought was a pretty good deal considering my ridiculously stringent tastes.

But hind sight 20/20, and I seriously started doubting I got sucked in and didn't get a good deal. So I ask for your opinion:

2013 BMW ActiveHybrid Sports Line with Premium Pkg. and a few more options including Harmon Kardon sound and Nav, but NO M-Package. Never sold, used as demo. 12,000 km or so, certified pre-owned (160k km/6 yrs bumper to bumper warranty) from the dealer. Exactly 1 yr old (on the road July 2013) and no charge maintenance for 4 yrs. The car is immaculate, and drives like a charm.

$46,000 all in (taxes and fees) which means just over $39,000 base.

What has me ticked is the BB value equals to about $39k once you convert USD to CAD, and can't find a black book for my life. However, I brought down the price $4,000 in one try, and they accepted it right away. Since I'm not exactly a master haggler, I'm a bit worried I could have done much, MUCH better...

The car is bought, and I have to live with it, but I really want to know if I got a deal, a fair price, or dinner-less date with an inmate......

Any opinion short of calling me a moron is appreciated :)

For the most part if you're comparing what you paid to what KBB says in the US you'll feel like you were screwed.

What is a 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid?

you paid less than retail... 4 grand less... it's easy to second guess yourself, but if you are happy with what you paid, then the deal is a great one.

could you have gotten it cheaper?.. probably... but is the added stress and all that comes along with a tougher negotiation worth 500-1000 to you? possibly... but i wouldn't stress about it... you got a good car covered with a great warranty that you obviously like.

In any case thanks for the opinions!

Tortoise: it's the hybrid version of the 3 series. Essentially it's a 335i with batteries. Minor MPG gain but in my case it's at no extra cost so...

Sir Osis: it really doesn't matter but I like not making the same mistakes over and over :)

For f* sakes... my dad's '13 328i Sport Line with no nav was about 50K taxes in...

THIS is what an ActiveHybrid costs now!? Now that dad's car was recently hit hard from behind and written off, time to start looking.

And it is such a low volume car, CBB would be worthless anyway.

Well I got my answer -  sort of: I live in Quebec so when the dealership plated the car at the SAAQ, the had to declare taxes charged. Turns out in their books, the AH3 was worth $45,000! I realize this isn't a market value, just a taxation thing (probably pretty aggressive too since you know... Quebec...) but it still gives an idea.

Thought I'd update the topic for future reference.

Oh and the car is worth every penny :D
