Michelin X-Ice Tires
« on: July 14, 2014, 06:57:58 pm »
I have purchased a vehicle with Michelin X-Ice tires. The PSI stated on tire is 51psi. I have sold tires and have never know a car tire to take 51psi. Looking for feedback on this as we were putting on 45psi and my 2 front tires have wear in the middle of the tread, which to me seems to be because of over inflation. Thanks for any comments.

The PSI on the tires is the maximum recommended PSI that can be used with the tires.  45 sounds high to be as well. The PSI you want to follow is the one located on the door jam and/or owners manual.

That 51 psi is the HIGHEST allowable pressure. The sticker on the drivers door jamb will tell you the CORRECT pressure for tires of the CORRECT size on THAT car.  That number is definitive. The owners manual may give different numbers for optional tires sizes which may be useful.

I am not surprised if the centre of the tread was wearing at 51 psi as that is probably all of the tread surface that was touching the ground.

If you search through this sub forum for posts by capiracer you will find the explanation for those sidewall numbers and what they really mean.

Whatever the recommended inflation value is for the vehicle in the owner's manual is the numbers you use.

Oh, c'mon, give in.  You know you want to.  You've got 51 PSI weighing down on you to key in that word.  It's easy:

I leave the rest as an exercise to the reader.   :hide: :run:   :rofl2: :rofl2:
