The new Cannondale Jekyll.  27 lbs of all mountain madness.  The pull shock caught me by surprise.

Went to my LBS today and had a nice little chat. I thought I'd see if by chance they had any great deals on leftover 2014s, but it wasn't to be. They told me that Santa Cruz basically assembles bikes as ordered, and the shop doesn't keep a bunch in inventory so they never really have any leftovers.

They did have some Specialized FSRs, but after a bit of chatting I think I've crossed them off my list. I want the RockShox Pike fork, and it only comes on the $6,000+ FSRs. For that kind of money, may as well get the Santa Cruz.

The Giant Trance SX seems like my best budget option, and comes with the Pike for around $3,500. Seems like a good bike and a good value, and they're apparently a little roomier in the cockpit, which I like. If it ever quits raining (and doesn't start snowing!), I may take one out for a spin.

But I still think the Santa Cruz Bronson is going to be one sweet bike. I was all set on saving some money with the aluminum frame, but am now thinking carbon is the way to go. For 2015, Santa Cruz introduced a new carbon layup that is a bit heavier than before, but also quite a bit cheaper than their top carbon frame. But now I'm looking at around $5,500 for the bike. Ouch.  :-\

^Those are all good or very good bikes, AFAIK. You can't go wrong with any of them, but of course you want to have the one that is best for you, especially for that kind of money.

Pedal Bike Shop in Port Colborne.

He deals with Scott, Niner and Opus as the main brands. (along with Salsa and Surley)
His prices are very good.

There's also Liberty Bicycles in St Catharines which is a place we used to deal with all the time.
They have Specialized, Cannondale and Kona

Borrowed one just like this from a buddy for a couple of hours over the weekend. Hadn't ridden a titanium frame before - my own bike is an old steel roadie commuter. Holy cow; the thing felt so light, smooth, stable and responsive - needless to say, I've since spent some time on Craigslist :P

Not to come across as biased since I own one, but what about the Devinci Troy XP? $3,000 for the aluminum model and it comes with the RockShox Pike (mine even has travel adjust), a Monarch in the rear, and a reasonably decent spec everywhere else. 150 mm of travel should be all you need. If you want the carbon model I believe it's in the $4,500 range.

^^ I'm sure there's lots of great bikes that aren't on my radar. Mostly, I'm just going on what my preferred LBS stocks and recommends. I've been a customer there since they first opened over 20 years ago and have always been treated well, so I'd like to buy another bike from them if possible.

Of course, it would probably be smart to check out other options from other stores. I also have a friend who owns a shop that sells Rocky Mountain, and there's a handful of shops in the area that probably sell different brands, too.

i LOVE Rocky Mountain... but haven't had one in ages due to the stores I deal with not being dealers.

having a good relationship with a shop is important.  That's one reason why I try to keep my purchases through the same one.  But even with the being said, we did change which shop we usually go to years ago.
partly due to location, partly due to price.  It's always interesting to visit somewhere else to see the customer service perspertive from another place.   I found some places can get complacent with regulars.

while the exchange rate hasn't been to great my shop in Port Colborne is usually the best in Canada for Niner pricing.   ;)

I've put my kidney on ebay, once it sells I'll let you know so you can get me a quote. The good thing is I don't need Di2 and carbon wheels so mine will come in cheaper.
