What an incredible piece of engineering.

Lesley, I'm curious: by your account the power seems so instantaneous and vast as to be overwhelming - aside from passing that truck, did you have many other opportunities to exploit the motor on public roads, or did it mostly feel like total overkill?

The 1975 Porsche 930 Turbo had an MSRP of $25,890, or $113,666 in today's dollars. That's right about where the equally capable Nissan GT-R is sitting, give or take. That's where my imaginary money would go, if I was looking for a chubby AWD GT.

Black, white, silver, grey, tan should be reserved for accountants or fleets.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Agreed.  But the 911 sure is nice.

I'd take a 911 4S if I needed an AWD GT and only had ~$120k

No, absolutely not. The really beautiful thing about these cars is how easy they are to drive easily. Well-mannered, not in the slightest bit twitchy.
I have a friend in the aerospace industry, and have access to a runway for speed tests, so if there's not opportunity to get on the track with a car like this, we can always "explore the limits" safely. I have taken the last couple of generations of turbo and turbo S around the big circuit at Mosport, and they're truly incredible pieces of machinery.
If I can't drive 'em... I'll draw 'em!

I still think that the 911 C2S is the best one out there. No need for AWD or the added complexity of turbos and such.

The 911 4S has no turbos

The TT 911s are the most robust, reliable 911 they make.

Turbo for me, please!
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

The turbo models aren't just 911s with stuff added on.  They're engineered to a different standard, and this has been true for some time.  They're a LOT more car than any 911 save perhaps specials models like GT3, etc.

Article Quote "Surprisingly – my fuel consumption was a a fairly reasonable 9.5 L/100 km overall, with one highway stretch where it hovered around 7.3-7.5 for well over an hour. Not bad for a 500+ horsepower sports car."

Downright amazing  :D fuel economy. Just goes to show what a pig the 2.5 L 4 cylinder Subaru EJ Series STI Engine is. I would be lucky to get 9.5L/100km on the highway when I still had the oem engine and turbo. The Porsche is a blown 6 cylinders and more powerful and still dealing with AWD.

It's also 4-5 times the price of a STi.
