Ive tried a Challenger R/T, Mustang GT and a Camaro SS all with manual transmission.......the Camaro....it was claustrophobic and the interior did nothing for me, power was good and I liked the transmission, rear locker/LSD was weak, got a lot of one tire fire on low speed corners. The Challenger, I love the looks of it, the one I drove was a dark grey with black stripes, fantastic looking car....beyond that...not really anything good to say about it, wasnt that powerful, wallowed through corners like a container ship and the seats sucked for support. The Mustang was by far my favorite, that 5L is a great sounding and performing engine, the tranny shifted well, it cornered well, the seats held me, could see out if it way, way better than the Camaro (thats actually not saying much, a coffin allows better sightlines than a Camaro) and it felt the right size. Only thing I didnt like about the Mustang....the dash was a little ricey for my tastes. To me the Challenger missed the mark, the Camaro and Mustang far outpace it.

Lighten up Francis.....

Performance-wise, I completely agree.

I'd love to have the time, energy and money to find an old Pony and stuff some V-8 monster driveline into it.

i'm with the muscle/pony cars being detroit steel... just out of tradition... doesn't mean that the germans, japanese or whomever don't make a better go fast machine... i just think when certain words are used, assumptions are made.

only comment that i'll add to... where the camaro was referred to as craptastic with the v6... meh. these smaller engines available in some of these cars over the last 5-10 years blow the doors off cars with nearly double the displacement that some of us grew up with... sure they don't sound right and as long as their is a bigger engine, it will seem like the "girl's version"... but some of the small engined versions of these cars are great when looked at on their own.

I drove a newer 300hp V6 Mustang.....yeah, it would eat a 5L or that horrid 4.6 2V for lunch....but I couldnt do it.....I'd always know I'd bought the lesser car.

A 600+hp Hyundai Pony with tubs done so that the outside profile wasn't altered so you could hide some bigger rubber would be such a stupid thing to build...

Out of this batch, I like the Mustang. It ticks all the right boxes and is sensibly sized and priced. But there is something about the Challenger that I really, really like.

I'm with you on that. The Challenger just looks substantially more serious than the Mustang....too bad the car itself can't keep up with the epic styling.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I'm a Mustang guy but, man, the Challenger just looks so awesome!  I can see regretting not buying one at some point in the future when I am remembering when.

Challengers are fun until you have to turn.

Out of the Detroit steel, my pick goes to the Mustang.

But, I have a soft spot for the 370Z.  But I would likely do this to it:  http://specialtyz.com/blog/?p=2673

I'm a mustang guy all the way.   I'm surprised by the love for the Challenger's looks.   The front looks pretty good, but man...the rear.   So tall and ugly looking:

Would definitely be my last pick of the Detroit iron.

i've got a 100th anniversary edition challenger right in front of my office... as much as i think it is a great looking car... i can't get over the weight and the interior... it's one of our last cars with the 6.5" screen too... just not up to the quality of the others... maybe if that was addressed i could get over the weight and performance issues...

when it's re-done, it's supposed to be smaller, lighter, with a supercharged engine and the new styled interior... that's for 2015... so it should be pretty darn competitive by then.
