hmm...

i've been with TD for a long while.. since 2005 or so, so i thought it was about time to see if anybody could do better.

No...

brokerlink in calgary got me this.

cheapest (wawanesa) is $700 more than what i pay, and this is for less coverage. (i have 2 mil total liability, along with platinum(what the agent told me) home insurance for $200 less than just Auto insurance from Wawanesa, with TD)

i guess i'm staying with TD.

i use the company directly... but it means you have to do the shopping every few years to keep em honest. otherwise the rates keep climbing.  and i would hope the broker will change it anytime it needs it...

but then again, that is assuming a broker is going to actually try at their job, not just take the easy money.

As teachers, we've purchased our insurance through Morgex, a broker in Alberta that handles the teacher's group insurance.  Every other year I shop around, and no one can come close.  They have changed companies a few times in the interest of getting us a better deal.  We also get great service as those firms know they'll get dropped in a second if they hassle members with respect to claims, etc.

^ I get mine through a (pseudo) group policy that The Personal does for CGI people and their retirees. They have been consistently cheaper that others.

We've also been with Morgex on the teachers' deal for years and thought we were getting a great deal.  I was surprised this spring when I asked for a car quote from my home insurance broker and found it was significantly less than with Morgex ($1,200/yr vs. $1,800.)

Of course, maybe the teachers' deal with Morgex would be even better if I moved our home insurance over, too.

Maybe.  I've always got quotes for the package, home and cars, and Morgex is usually 10-40% less than anyone else.  Got competitive quotes last summer, not this year.  Every other year I check on them.

Same for me.  I've been with State Farm for ~20 years.  Every time I contact brokers hoping for a better deal...NOPE.  State Farm cheaper.  And quite a bit so.  To give an idea...I pay ~$750 yr. for my 911 with full coverages.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

It seems to me that the most important thing is to have all your policies in the same place.

For years, we had our home policy with one broker, auto with another (because of that teacher thing), and our motorcycles with a third (because the auto broker doesn't do motorcycles and I never thought to ask the home guy.)

So this year I finally clued in and switched the bikes over to our home insurance broker for a savings of 50% over the stand-alone bike policy. I'm tempted to switch the car insurance, too, but Morgex has been good to us and offers some policy features that the other guy can't exactly match.

One thing that most brokers can do is source insurance for weird stuff.  BUT, Teachers Group can't cope with oddball or low volume insurance needs.  When I had the 911, they had a terrible time as the "rate group" exceeded their standard policy program.  They ended up insuring it, but took some doing.
