The second coat.
After some more hand sanding with 1000 & 3000, it's blending in and looking pretty good.  Much better than coat # 1.

But look close you can still see some primer on the edges - result of me sanding a bit too much.

I still have tape left, so wrap it back up for coat # 3.

This looks great weels   You would have to look real hard from a standing position down at the wheel to notice there was ever an issue.

Lots of paint layers then sand.  Don't try to do 1 layer or you go through the paint pretty quick.  Put 3 layers of paint then sand then buff it.

That makes sense, thanks.

Ive been told its best to paint a layer, sand, add a layer, sand, add a layer, sand, then paint the final layer.

Yea, that's applies to real paint. Most people spraying from a spray can put the layers on a bit light

I followed that process with a spay can and wet sanding. I was amazed by the results.

Yeah just don't sand too much if you don't put much paint on.  Even at 3000 grit you be surprised how much paint comes off.

I think we're good.  I said at beginning goal wasn't perfection... if this was a car I was keeping, i'd probably spend a bit more time at it and do 1 or 2 more coats.

It looks pretty good though.  Better than I was expecting.  If you have an exact paint match, you can get a good repair out of this.  My spray-bomb has more metallic in it, which you can see up close, but the colour matches.

After:

Good enough for the inspector man.  Might clean up the other three wheels a bit since I have one nice & clean wheel and 3 dirty ones.   ;D

Yep.  You do need to go very gentle with the sanding.

Did the paint come from the dealer or elsewhere?

Great job on that

I need to do some paint touch up on my summer wheels. I used the Duplicolor wheel paint from CT too a few years ago. Sand blasted the wheels and repainted in graphite.
