I sat against the fence 20 feet away from the Montreal F1 track at turn 3 in 1995 when Ferrari was still running their V12.  Every time the cars went by, my chest tightened with the pressure of the sound, almost forcing me to exhale.   My earplugs were of no real value.  A few years later, that particular area was replaced with a grandstand further back and higher up from the track...

No kidding! Excellent race!  I did have to chuckle a little when Vettel was told over the radio to move over for Daniel...

Agreed!. Noting like a classic Grand Prix circuit.

Today was fantastic. By far, the best race of the year. We had seats at the hairpin.  Great view.  Gotta say, the V6 turbos sound much better in person than they do on tv. But, no earplugs required like you needed with the old V8's. If you stood beside the track when a V8 car went by, you could feel this shockwave go right through you. The historic grand prix cars, that's how an F1 car should sound...what a noise, just awesome!  They gave me goosebumps.

While I was there, got to meet up with 1 Angry Chicken, and chat for a little bit.

I took almost 300 pictures. After I sort through them I'll post a pile of them.

Anyone watch the Hungarian GP this past weekend?  I watched a replay of it last night and it was an awesome race.  Lewis Hamilton was brilliant finishing 3rd after spinning out early in the race.  Very strategic race as well as lots of rain followed by clearing made tire choice crucial.  Hamilton also clearly ignored orders to let his team mate Rosberg pass him in the final quarter.  He said would only let him pass if he caught up, but he never did, so why slow down?  Incredibly stupid order... ::)

Strangely enough it was a few laps into the race before I noticed the noise, or lack thereof, so I must be getting used to the new sound of F1.

Amazing race and YES Ron there were passes for the lead, actually 5 or 6 if I remember correctly, but possibly more.

Yep! It was awesome. The best pass was obviously the one with three laps to go!
Ricciardo FTW!!!

F1 is like Leap Year.  Ever 4 years, you get some passing for the lead (maybe).   ;D

It was fun watching Hamilton make his way through the traffic. When he's on it, he's fast. 2 races in a row he's started from way back and he's been on the podium. That was a crap call by Mercedes, I like Nico, but I don't blame Lewis for not slowing down for him. It was too bad Nico just went past pit in when the safety car came out, bad timing.

I was hopefull for Fernando for the win, but it was good to see him on the podium. Nice win for Riccardo!

Mercedes management is shambolic. Toto and Lauda are so far out of their depth...its sad. Ross Brawn would never have let things get this out of hand.

A pensioner running his mouth off and throwing the WDC leading driver under the bus like this? After all this "we have to let the drivers drive"? Embarrassing.

Mercedes are in this for the brand, for the WCC, win-on-Sunday-sell-on-Monday, not for driver v driver fireworks. Can't imagine the Daimler board is very pleased. I actually wonder if Lauda is more likely to be sacked than either Ham or Ros.

So Vettel's going to Ferrari next year with Räikkönen. Will be interesting to see if Alonso goes to Mac or Merc or if he will take a sabbatical.

Merc is already settled with ROS/HAM.

So really its got to be Alonso @ McLaren.

Also, is Vettel to Ferrari confirmed? I know he is leaving RB but has he actually announced where he is going to?

Figures the Finnish guy would get the punctuation right on the Finn's name.  ;-)

Alonso to Force India maybe?  Or, Räikkönen takes a break (or a cash-out) and the lineup is Alonso and Vettel?

Alonso is already confirmed to be leaving Ferrari. If he goes to a midfield team like FI I will eat my shoes.

So far, the only official announcement has come from Red Bull Racing regarding Vettel leaving and Danil Kvyat taking his place. Vettel hasn't said where he's going, officially. Everything else is just rumors right now. Could get interesting over the next little bit if some big names are going to move around...
