I notice that the release does NOT say when it will come to NA  and it does NOT say that we will get the two versions.    We will see.
There is hardly anything in the world that someone can’t make a little worse and sell a little cheaper and he who considers price alone is this man's lawful prey.

I've read that it will be early-mid 2014 before it goes on sale in North America as the new model will be built in Mexico.

Boo that was always one of the perks of the GTI over a regular Golf to me. Made in Germany not USA or Mexico. I reember when I got my first car in 1988 it was an 83 GLI and at the time the GTIs and all the other Rabbit/Jetta were made in the US I believe but mine had German on the under hood stickers and was made in Germany. I always thought that the fit and finish on My GLI was much better than my buddies GTI.

Its really not much of a power boost. 217 HP...the current 2.0 T in the A4 is rated at 211. A 500 reflash will take you beyond the 227 of the performance version to 232. A little tweak to the boost software and its making a bit more power and I think its pretty proven that with the Revo stage 1 its well within the limits of the engine to be making 230 hp. Its not like its tuned to the ragged edge at that level.  They did make it lighter so that's a plus but really this is more of an evolution.

I love GTIs but the price has crept upwards so much that its really not on the list anymore.

Have to agree with this. I love my GTi but I don't know if I'd be shopping for another one as I would want something different and this hasn't changed enough to qualify.

Interesting to see that the power number are hardly changing but then again, I have a Stage1 and I find at times its too much for being a FWD car.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

If the MK VII was to be available in NA this spring I would have bought one instead of the M-B.  New platform underneath, Enough power. Good local dealer.

FWIW my 1987 Twin Can GTI was made in Pennsylvania with the engine shipped in from Germany.

I'm a little disappointed. A very moderate power increase and only 42kg weight drop, for the Euro GTI with 2.0T.
I thought regular Golf lost more that that...

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

2003 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T: $26,330
2013 Volkswagen GTI: $29,375

The price increase over 10 years hasn't even kept up with inflation.
